Subtitles out of sync on recorded programs on ABC

Firstly, in my previous post (#39), I inadvertently provided the wrong link to the WP post that I was alluding too - now corrected. It confirms the issue on another V2.

My V2 box running oATV is a spare unit that I acquired thru ebay. Have no idea which production variant it is. Can it be determined some way via it's listed specs on the Info page?

How adventurous are you feeling?

There is a alpha version of some test firmware that has updated drivers for the Beyonwiz V2 hardware. This is an experimental build of version 7.6 of a future OpenATV. Would you be interested in testing it against your subtitle issues?

Your recordings were tested on a production version Beyonwiz V2 running the production firmware and the issues you reported were noted. When they were tested on the alpha firmware there seemed to be a notable improvement. I am told it may not be considered perfect but was significantly better.

EDIT/UPDATE:
Using the tester's Beyonwiz V2 running the production firmware we have been unable to replicate your results with subtitle issues on any of the services tested in Melbourne. The only issues have manifested on the sample recordings you provided. I think the most appropriate form of testing should be to see if new recordings can be made with the subtitle issues rather than looking at the old recording issues.

Please note that this is ALPHA software and has NOT been well tested and could have all sorts of issues. Should you wish to test this firmware your results will factor into the possibility that all hardware that shares these drivers may be updated to this new code. There is no pressure from us for you to accept the offer but as you have reported a reproducible issue you make an excellent test candidate.

I'm up for it Ian. As I've said, I'm using it as a test box anyway ...

I'm not that au fait with setting up and running test environments but I'm sure you'll provide any guidance I need.

I currently have a swag of other commitments that I need to focus on but have sufficient time at least, to get the ball rolling.

Ian, just to clarify, this requires performing a clean install of the image from usb ... is that correct?

Hi Teddles,

It needs to be flashed but, as far as I am aware, you can restore all your settings. Mind you a clean flash is always helpful when testing out for issues.

Hi Teddles,

Don't unzip the file, you use the zip file intact. Put the zip file into /media/hdd/images and then use "MENU > Setup > Software Management > Flash Online" and look in "Downloaded images" to find the 7.6 image you downloaded.

I've come a cropper Ian,

Yesterday with your instructions I created the 'images' dir under media/hdd and copied the zip file to it. Was able to navigate to the file in the 'downloaded images' section of Flash online.

I left it at that with the intent of flashing the image today. Lo and behold, on firing up the V2 from standby, the added directory (as well as the pre-existing beyondwiz/V2 sub directories) have gone missing from media/hdd. Of course, there's now no 'downloaded images' section under Flash Online.

I recreated the 'images' dir but it disappears after a shutdown/restart of the box.

How many storage disks do you have connected to your receiver? What you report is a common issue if there are multiple devices contending to be mounted as /media/hdd.

Yeah, found the missing stuff on a mounted network share! Hadn't properly configured local storage (SD card). Seems to be all sorted and will attempt again tomorrow.

That's the reason, why I always advise:
- no E2 without a local storage device, formatted in ext4 and fixed mounted to /media/hdd
AND plus most important:
- in mount options for shares do NOT use as HDD replacement

Besides a share in 99% is not available after flashing (only exception is Dreambox with its flash memory management, that differs from all other boxes), you will encounter bad experiences of several varieties. To go deeper in that topic here, it would exeed this topic.
