Subtitles out of sync on recorded programs on ABC

Your experience differs from the recent testing by Joerg and myself. Can you please provide a sample recording, with all the meta-data files so that we can run tests against a known problematic file.

I am sorry, but I can't fault subtitles on this recording either.

Given you are using a Beyonwiz V2 running the same version of OpenATV as am I this is worrying. At the moment the only significant difference is the hardware. I have tested the recordings on a Zgemma H7 and a GigaBlue UHD UE 4K. I have asked other team members with more hardware options to also run some tests.

You maybe have to allign the settings of the audio- and language-settings in the audio section of the image, and maybe, also in EMC the preferation of the tracks. So there might be at least three or four screens, where the behavoir of track fetching for playback can be different.

- The first is already in the video-setting of HDMI-out with for example 1080p-multi / 1080i-multi?
- The second is the audio-track itself, to get the track for global timebase.
- The third is the handling of audio (Downmix yes/no), which may be handled a little bit different for synching video and audio, and also some automatics for HDMI-response to the audio-features, if available.
- The fourth is in the global subtitle menu of the settings with some timing settings.
- The fifth is in the menu for automatic language selection with some settings for preferences of fetching the subtitle-track (different naming of tracks in the transportstream can lead to different detection, so these settings may be relevant).
- The sixth is in the EMC settings the chapter of language settings for subtitles.

So there are six places, that can influence the topic.

Thanks Ian, a bit of a bummer heh! The settings to be looked at as per Ralf's post look somewhat daunting but I'll see how I go.

No V2 at your disposal, is that correct? It would be great if we could rule out gross 'user error' on my part

What media player are you using? I am testing with MovieSelection and NOT EMC.

Can I please have a list of receiver models that you are using. OpenATV 7.5.1 is now becoming available and my tests are showing that subtitles are working on this version. NOTE: I am talking about the production release firmware version 7.5.1 and NOT the test builds of 7.5!

U4. Unfortunately I don’t have the time at the moment to be reflashing and testing firmware, which is why I haven’t been replying for a while. And @Teddles experience with 7.5.1 doesn’t look promising

Hopefully I’ll get some more time in a week or two. In the meantime I’m still on BW firmware which has no issues with subtitles when playing back recorded programs.

Try as we might, so far we are unable to reproduce the issues you guys are reporting.

There are different types of receiver being used yet they seem to suffer the same issues. To me this is potentially ruling out hardware and driver issues.

A number of developers have been using the videos you have provided and we can't seem to force the failures.

I am wondering if you need to start from a fresh and clean install of the latest firmware with no extra plugins or settings changes and see if the problems persist. I am open to other suggestions.

Thanks Ian. This is indeed a strange problem. I’ll try a clean install of 7.5.1 in maybe 2 weeks time … I’m not allowed to touch anything while the Australian Open is on
