T2 Start failure

#1

Beitrag von jjmaus »

I have a Beyonwiz T2 2015 edition(Australia). The last week it kept asking to do a firmware update, which I did not have time to do yet.
Three days ago the unit "died".
Symptoms:
When switched on, there is no light on. On opening, the HDD makes a clicking sound.
I replaced the HDD (500Gb) with another(unformatted), but same clicking sound.
When switching on without the HDD, the blue Beyonwiz logo flashes on the screen for about 5 seconds, then goes off, no messages complaining about the missing HDD. The red power LED is now on.
From what I could find, the PSU could be a problem. The specs say a12V 5 A supply, but mine is a 12V 3A supply. The PSU measured 12.3V no load.
Can someone please offer some advice of what else to look at.
Much appareciated.

Normally, external power supplies are almost indestructible. The 3A specification is fine and should be sufficient for this device. However, you can probably find this type of power supply easily at an electronics store near you, as many devices use 12V power supplies.

I would first open the device and remove the HDD. It's enough to simply disconnect the power connector from the SATA HDD. Then, try turning on the box again without the HDD. If you have a multimeter, you can also check the output voltage beforehand.

Hi Captain, as I mentioned, when I switch on without the HDD, the Beyonwiz power logo flashes on the screen for about 5 sec, goes blank and then repeats. There is no error message or boot message complaining about the missing HDD, which is what I would expect. Is there a way to boot from USB, in case this is a firmware failure?

How to Flash OpenATV on Your Beyonwiz T2

1. Download the latest OpenATV image for your box.
2. Extract the contents of the ZIP file onto a USB stick formatted as FAT32.
- The USB stick should be a maximum of 2 GB or smaller.
3. Insert the USB stick into a rear USB port of the box.
4. Turn on the box.
5. A message will appear on the display – follow the instructions to proceed with the installation.

The image will now be reinstalled automatically. 🚀

OK - I updated the firmware/sw without issues.
When power up without the HDD, the OpenATV logo appears for 5 sec, then goes blank and repeats, same as the Beyonwiz logo before the update.
Connected the HDD - it now sounds as if it is formatting/searching/ defragmenting, still with no power light.
Do I need to format the HDD - is it Ext4?

Hi Yjjmaus,

If you have access to another power supply I would give it a try. Just because the power supply measures 12 volts on a multimeter does not mean that the power supply can deliver 12 volts under load. The old Beyonwiz forums contained many reports from Australian users who had Beyonwiz power supplies fail. Pretty much any 12 volt power supply that is used for security cameras or LED light strips should work on your Beyonwiz. (Check the voltage, current and pin polarities first!)

If you want to be sure it is the power supply try using an appropriate power supply from another device to see how that goes on your Beyonwiz. If the Beyonwiz issues go away then you should be able to purchase the new power supply with a greater level of confidence that your issues should be resolved.

Regards,
Ian.

And at least each E2-Box should even start into regular operation without a HDD. After clean flash the the setup assistant must appear, when the connected TV / Monitor is compatible. Then after setup just receive one service, and give video and sound to a connected TV. Especially when flashed clean. It needs not run stable without a local storage device mounted, but start should happen full.
If that not happens, the power supply or flash memory seems to be broken.
Last chance could be an overload at the tuner out.
DVB-S2 Tuner serve power for LNBs, DVB-T(2) Tuners serve 5V for active antennas.
