Hi Tony,
@jbleyel and I have been looking at the Samba issues on OpenATV and we think we have found the problem and I believe I have a solution. We are waiting for the developer who maintains this area of the code to return from holidays but we hope that there will be an improvement to this code soon.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: Accessing SMB/Samba Network
Hi Ian,
This will probably be rendered obsolete by your last post.
I use a windows 11 PC and had to use an on-line guide to activate SMB1 so that CIFS can be used.
Now have managed to update a T2 and a V2 to OATV. Using Filezilla I copied the samba directory ( and all the sub directories and files) under Beyonwiz to the PC. Then after installing OATV v7.4 I deleted the samba directory and contents and replaced them with the saved Beyonwiz one.
On the PC the T2 and V2 appear under network and if opened the movie and logs directories appear.
OpenWebIf also works on the PC.
On a machine using the Network browser the other drive can be seen. Click on it and the movie folder appears. Select it and mount it through Mountpoints management.
To view the movies on the other machine(s) use Media then Bookmarks to see/select the other machine.
Regards,
Tony

Re: Accessing SMB/Samba Network
I would not suggest to mount the other machines folder "movie" directly as mountpoint. Mountpoints do not support hardlinks, and you will run in trouble.
The correct way would be, to use the release "Harddisk" of the server box, and in EMC set a link to /media/autofs/MOUNTPOINT/movie named "-Sever1" or whatelse to have direct access with less clicks. This link is only visible, if the server box is online (it worked that way in the past).

Re: Accessing SMB/Samba Network
Hi Tony,
How clairvoyant are you? We found a few issues with the current OpenATV Samba configuration. By your using the Beyonwiz configuration you have negated the improper configuration. To solve my issues I have also replaced the default OpenATV configuration with my proposed solution.
Some of the issues in the current OpenATV configuration are that netbios is turned off and that port 139 is disabled and the minimum SMB version is v2. These settings will make old clients and servers fail. (This is why my old ReadyNAS boxes stopped working.)
If you have a configuration that is working then I suggest you stick with it for now. The issues we found and the changes we are proposing need to be submitted very high up the development chain and may affect all Enigma2 images. This may take some time to filter down to a normal OpenATV build.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: Accessing SMB/Samba Network
Hi Tony and other Samba users,
The OpenATV Samba configuration has now been updated in the feeds. The new configuration should now work be default on Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs. If you want to change any of the defaults, like the workgroup, the server string or anything else then you can make those changes in the new /etc/samba/smb-local.conf file.
The "/etc/samba/smb.conf" file is system supplied and should never be changed. It will be replaced on every Samba update. "The "/etc/samba/smb-local.conf" will be created on the first installation and can be changed to suit your needs. When there is a Samba update and the "/etc/samba/smb-local.conf" has been edited the system will copy the standard "smb-local.conf" onto your receiver as "/etc/samba/smb-local.opkg". It is up to you to see what has changed between the original "/etc/samba/smb-local.conf" and the new "/etc/samba/smb-local.opkg" and make the equivalent changes to your "/etc/samba/smb-local.conf".
If you are using older versions of Windows or you have a specific workgroup you can edit the following settings to enable the less secure settings required by older systems:
To enable a setting remove the leading ";" and set the data as you need. In most cases, simply enabling these settings and possibly changing the workgroup should be all you need to get Samba working on your network.
Regards,
Ian.
