A few users have been having issues with tuner scanning on OpenATV as compared to the Beyonwiz firmware. This post is intended to show users how best to perform service scans using OpenATV in Australia.
First, the reason why there are differences. The Beyonwiz firmware code was changed to disable/remove scanning options for all cable and satellite services. Only terrestrial scans were possible. This is not the case with OpenATV where all types of tuners are available to be used depending on what type of tuners your receiver has available and what services are available at your location.
This is the recommended way that Beyonwiz users moving to OpenATV should configure their tuners:
- Go to "MENU > Setup > Tuners, Scanning & Reception > Tuner Configuration" you will be presented with a list of physical tuners present.
- Please select each tuner in the list and press OK to configure it. For each tuner, if there is a choice of tuner type, select each of the operating modes (DVB-C and/or DVB-S and/or DVB-T) and then configure the parameters for each of the modes. In Australia that means that the DVB-C and DVB-S modes, if offered, should be disabled.
- If you have a possible DVB-C mode please set the "Configuration mode" to "nothing connected" and "Force Legacy Signal stats" to "No". This will shut down the cable mode of that tuner.
- If you have a possible DVB-S mode please set the "Configuration mode" to "Not configured" and "Force Legacy Signal stats" to "No". This will shut down the satellite mode of that tuner.
- If you have a possible DVB-T mode please set the "Configuration mode" to "enabled", "Country" to "AUSTRALIA", "Region" to your local area [for example "Melbourne (Australia DVB-T)" or "Sydney (Australia DVB-T)"], "Enable 5V for active antenna" to "Off" (unless your antenna system actually needs the receiver to supply power to a mast head amplifier - this is not common) and "Force Legacy Signal stats" to "No".
- After confirming the above settings you can then go to "MENU > Setup > Tuners, Scanning & Reception > Automatic Scan". From this menu you should now set the options "Clear before scan" to "Yes", "Network scan" to "Yes" and then you should see a list of all the DVB-T configured tuners. In almost all cases you only need to enable the first DVB-T tuner for scanning. The only time you need to scan any of the other tuners is if the other tuners point in other directions and can access different services.
- When you run the scan you should now only have a single pass that should run rather promptly and deliver you with all the services you need.

Ian.
