Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Hi all!
I have just taken the plunge and moved to Open ATV for my Beyonwiz V2.
The process was very easy and I was surprised how it 'just worked' first up. Anyone thinking of making the change it is simple as.
The V2 is my 'backup' PVR and is not in normal use so this will give me a chance to play and see how Open ATV works without affecting our main viewing PVR (Beyonwiz T4).
One thing that is a major problem for me is the skip forward/back buttons. I am using universal remotes (Harmony Elite and a Sofabaton) and neither have hard number buttons. I understand that these are used to perform the skipping function. Is there any advice on how to configure something I can use? I know it is low on the priority list, but are we likely to be getting the Beyonwiz skip function with for forward/back any time soon?
A massive thank you to @IanSav, @prl and the team for helping us old Beyonwiz die hards into the future.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
So the plugin specialjump (doing some special jump actions with FF/FR) maybe does the task to substitute that functionality.
Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Hi BitBucket,
The Beyonwiz ARROW button skips are planned for implementation but have not yet been coded. Please note that as this functionality is pretty much only for Beyonwiz users who are small in number this may take some time to implement. That said, it will not be forgotten.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
After playing with specialjump it is not quite what I am needing/looking for here.
I might have to wait for arrow key skip fwd/back or try and figure out how to add this myself.
Thanks.. OpenATV looks awesome and I love it, just need skip fwd/back on arrow keys to be useful in my household.

Agreed. This is one feature that we use constantly to skip adverts. I must admit that I haven't upgraded the our boxes waiting until this feature is available.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Sorry, but I don't know how that feature original works in the original firmware.
Is there an exact documentation somewhere?

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
The Up and Right Buttons skip forwards. The Left and Down buttons skip backwards. The amount of skip is entered in seconds.
I have mine set to
Up = forward 30 seconds
Right = forward 180 seconds
Down = back 30 seconds
Left = back 60 seconds
Very handy to skip through adverts.
Sorry I havent had a chance to download OpenATV yet, so I am not sure what functionality is available that may replace this..

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Hi,
The skipping feature has been baked into OpenATV from, I believe, the beginning. Beyonwiz users were never given access to skipping until the feature was added to the ARROW buttons. This was done to mirror functionality that existed on earlier Beyonwiz receivers that were not based on Enigma2.
Most, if not all, OpenATV users don't quite follow the issue and history. It is simply the result of the Beyonwiz firmware (for the Enigma2 based models) being based on a very old version of Enigma2 and then growing and advancing in a parallel but in different ways. Personally, I have adjusted to the number button skips and the service selections via the ARROW buttons. Beyonwiz users prefer to keep all the button mappings the way they have always had them. While OpenATV has all the core functionality Beyonwiz users want, we need to make a number of changes to allow for all the button remapping. Some OpenATV functionality will be lost in the remapping but I suspect that Beyonwiz users won't care.
From my perspective, this request will take some time as there are a number of projects, in various stages of completion, that will clean up and optimise some of the existing OpenATV code so that the Beyonwiz sort of changes can be made without negatively affecting the significantly larger group of native OpenATV users. In particular, any Enigma2 coders will know exactly how hard it is to change InfoBar.py and InfoBarGenerics.py without significantly risking the stability of the code.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Well, Jogi, firstly that is known. And secondly, not wanted by Australian users.
They don't even want the SpecialJump, which only uses LEFT/RIGHT (ATTENTION! Patent rights must be observed!!!).
Please also see there:
viewtopic.php?p=49755#p49755
So I have mixed feelings about it. The SpecialJump exists and is easier to use (only two keys instead four).
The other request actually has to be legally checked beforehand in addition to implementation.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
The main issue I have with specialjump is that it is a bit too 'smart''.
I could live with the two button implementation if I could get it to just jump forward (for example) 30 seconds consistently and backward 09 seconds. The binary search mechanism is confusing. We normally just press skip forward 6-8 times then back one and we are within 5 seconds of the start of the next segment. Many programs here have pretty consistent ad break sizes.
I appreciate many use the up/down buttons as well (so do I from time to time) but just getting forward/back to a set value would make openatv workable with my current set up, if not totally optimal.
I get that the number skips are regularly used, I tried them with the beyonwiz and with openatv. The issue for me is I have to find the buttons AND now I am using remotes without physical number buttons it is a moot point for me.
Thank you all for at least considering this request. From an openatv stand point we Beyonwiz users are only a very small percentage of users. Personally I think a lot of people would love the skip function with direction keys, but hey I am already sold.

Thanks all,
10 years of muscle memory is something that is hard to break.
But I may just have to move with the times.
I have 5 Beyonwiz machines, so when I do make the switch to Open ATV they will all be going over.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Have for the last 6 months, been happily running openATV V7.4 on both of my U4 and V2 beyonwizs.
Just did a firmware flash of both to v7.5.1
All's good and both operate very fast.
Thanks again to all those here in opena.tv who've made V7.5.1 a workable solution for beyonwiz U4 & V2

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Been away for a while, I note that 7.5 seems to have gone from beta to (presumably) prod, with 7.6 out as an alpha.
My T2 is on the Jan 9 build of 7.4, but the update check finds nothing, so I assume if I want to upgrade I'm up for a usb install?
FTR - Probably won't be doing a usb install unless/until the BW cursor keys skipping becomes available.
Also, a somewhat different question: there's a new codec - AV1 - out there, is it included somewhere, planned for, or never going to work on the T2 - in the same way X265s won't play (nor on T3 or T4) as the hardware isn't up to it? I do have a U4 & V2 still on BW firmware that are my main machines.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Hi BillyBlue,
You don't need to do USB upgrades with OpenATV. Just go to "MENU > Setup > Software Management > Flash Online" Select the image you want to install and just follow the prompts.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
AV1 will probably never come in E2, even although the codec is free. I've nowhere seen any effort, to implement it.
The gstplayer brings up a message like "GST_MISSING_PLUGIN: AV1 decoder", while the exteplayer3 starts playback without an error message, but also without video-playback. In my testfiles there's always audio-, but never has been video-playback. On none of my boxes with none of the available images.

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
How long should the online flash take?
Selected the 20250225 version, it downloaded, the unzipped and then a new screen briefly appeared - 2 status bars with some progress then a message that I think said "Waiting for E2 to stop" before the screen went blank.
Nothing for 10 mins so I powered off via the back panel switch (no response to the remote) and after the reboot the information screen was still 7.4.
Just a thought: Is it possible that the process is trying to write to the non-existent front panel of the T2?

Re: Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Hi BillyBlue,
The screen with the two progress bars should take a few minutes and not seconds. The whole process should take about 10 to 15 minutes.
If you can provide a log of the upgrade attempt we can see if we can explain what happened.
Regards,
Ian.
