Hi, I am looking to upgrade my Beyonwiz T4 running Beyonwiz 19.3 firmware to OpenATV. Before I do this would like to know

1. Is there anything I should do prior to the upgrade. I was planning to do a settings backup (I realise I won't be able to restore that to OpenATV but just in case)
1a. With the installation is it just the same as updating the current Beyonwiz firmware (put firmware on USB and power off set top box, insert usb and power on and then press up arrow to update)
1b. If once I install it if I am not a fan can I easily go back to Beyonwiz 19.3 firmware in the same way as a normal firmware update
2. Are current recordings or content on hdd affected? Do I need to do anything to protect hdd content (ie. remove hdd during firmware upgrade). BeyonWiz HDD is formatted as EXT4 with recordings and video files stored in /movie
3. Do all 4 tuners in beyonwiz T4 continue to function as before (ie. can record from say 3 separate transponders and watch another
4. Does it support Autotimers plugin. If so can I transfer across my existing autotimers file from the backup I make above
5. Does it support EPGRefresh plugin. This plugin "visits" all transport streams in the background to download EPG data
6. Does it support IMDB plugin (that currently works)
7. Does this support Favourites Bouquet and then on each boot up it utilises this bouquet (or whichever the last active bouquet was).
8. Programmable skip buttons. Currently I have arrow keys programmed to skip backwards 1 minute, backwards 10 seconds, forward 1 minute, forward 3 minutes. From what I understand there is skip on the number buttons and can use the left and right arrows only. Can these be programmed to user defined time periods (ie. Left Skips back 15 seconds and right skips forward 3 minutes). If not directly possible is there a plugin available to do this
9. Is there a detailed user guide (in English) that is available to download

Apologies for all the queries but just want to be sure about making this change.

Ok So I went ahead and installed it thinking would give it a try after doing a whole bunch of image searches which for the most part made me confident enough to have a go. It has for the most part gone well, I have done my channel scans, set up my favourites, setup autotimers (although couldn't import through openwebif but replacing the xml file from my backup worked, epgrefresh is working though had issues with some channels not originally populating properly.

As far as using the arrow buttons for skip I managed to track down a program called SpecialJump which appears to be working for Skip backwards 15 seconds on left arrow and skip forward 3 minutes on right arrow with how I have configured it so far. Still to try implement up and down arrows for other times but this works enough for me to know I should be able to solve however having it built into the options of enigma2 like the number button skips would be a neater and likely more robust solution as this option seemed flakely when it started but think it is now ok. Only time will tell.

Also had issues setting up Samba Shares as OpenATV is more secure the Beyonwiz image however with modifying the samba configs directly and then having to restart from command line as the GUI wouldn't work it is now functioning fine with my other networked devices which access it (hopefully that continues).

I still haven't managed to track down a user manual in english for OpenATV so if someone can point me to one that would be awesome.

Many advantages to it for the moment and a few drawbacks but hoping as I tweak / get through the huge selection of setup options that i will end up with a far superior option then before and hopefully sort out the drawbacks

One key thing I would like to find out also is when I look at my recordings list ("Enhanced Movie Centre") it often seems to default back to the top of the list. Is there a way to get it to default to the last selected file (sometimes it does this and other times it doesn't? Also have a similar issue with the default channel defaulting back to 1 on some occasions when I turn the box on (again sporadic).

Hi Naigy,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

naigy hat geschrieben:Hi, I am looking to upgrade my Beyonwiz T4 running Beyonwiz 19.3 firmware to OpenATV. Before I do this would like to know

Welcome!

naigy hat geschrieben:1. Is there anything I should do prior to the upgrade. I was planning to do a settings backup (I realise I won't be able to restore that to OpenATV but just in case)

openATV is a very different build so there will be little of use coming from a very old Beyonwiz image.

naigy hat geschrieben:1a. With the installation is it just the same as updating the current Beyonwiz firmware (put firmware on USB and power off set top box, insert usb and power on and then press up arrow to update)

Yes. The only way to move over is to do a full flash to openATV.

naigy hat geschrieben:1b. If once I install it if I am not a fan can I easily go back to Beyonwiz 19.3 firmware in the same way as a normal firmware update

Correct, you can go back to the Beyonwiz image at any time.

naigy hat geschrieben:2. Are current recordings or content on hdd affected? Do I need to do anything to protect hdd content (ie. remove hdd during firmware upgrade). BeyonWiz HDD is formatted as EXT4 with recordings and video files stored in /movie

Nothing on the hard disk should be affected by the conversion. There will be some new folders added to the hard disk but no recordings should be affected.

naigy hat geschrieben:3. Do all 4 tuners in beyonwiz T4 continue to function as before (ie. can record from say 3 separate transponders and watch another

You should lose nothing and gain more and new functionality. One of my Australian testers of openATV is running on Beyonwiz T4 hardware.

naigy hat geschrieben:4. Does it support Autotimers plugin. If so can I transfer across my existing autotimers file from the backup I make above

Absolutely. While I can't be sure how old the Beyonwiz AutioTimer code is compared to the openATV version but I suspect that if you restore your AutoTimers XML file all your AutoTimers should be restored.

naigy hat geschrieben:5. Does it support EPGRefresh plugin. This plugin "visits" all transport streams in the background to download EPG data

Yes. Most of the old Beyonwiz plugins are still available on openATV as are many more plugins though many have limited, if any, value to Australian users.

naigy hat geschrieben:6. Does it support IMDB plugin (that currently works)

Yes. If I remember correctly, the changes made to the IMDb plugin by the Australian developer are also available on the openATV build. (Similarly PRL's picon updates are also available on openATV.)

naigy hat geschrieben:7. Does this support Favourites Bouquet and then on each boot up it utilises this bouquet (or whichever the last active bouquet was).

The Beyonwiz firmware was a derivative of the Enigma2 project. Most of the Beyonwiz functionality is derived from the same sources as openATV. What you may note is that the openATV versions of the code are newer and potentially enhance over the experiences you noted on the Beyonwiz firmware.

naigy hat geschrieben:8.

The ARROW button based skips are NOT available on openATV. As you noted, the number button skips are available with one significant limitation. The 1, 4 and 7 buttons only skip backwards and the 3, 6 and 9 buttons only skip forwards.

naigy hat geschrieben:9. Is there a detailed user guide (in English) that is available to download

No. The firmware is under constant development and improvement. This outpaces any documentation that may exist. That said, I have taken PRL's help developments for the Beyonwiz firmware and we are deploying it all over openATV. Try pressing HELP whenever you need assistance.

naigy hat geschrieben:Apologies for all the queries but just want to be sure about making this change.

Not a problem. This forum area is specifically for this sort of question.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Naigy,

Sorry my delay caused you reservations about the jump to openATV.

naigy hat geschrieben:Ok So I went ahead and installed it thinking would give it a try after doing a whole bunch of image searches which for the most part made me confident enough to have a go. I have not forgotten the ARROW button skips from the Beyonwiz firmware. This feature may make an appearance in openATV, as an optional configuration, some time down the track. It is not very high in the active task and wish lists.

naigy hat geschrieben:Also had issues setting up Samba Shares as OpenATV is more secure the Beyonwiz image however with modifying the samba configs directly and then having to restart from command line as the GUI wouldn't work it is now functioning fine with my other networked devices which access it (hopefully that continues).

There is an active to-do item that is about to become an active task to expose more of the samba configuration items into the UI.

naigy hat geschrieben:I still haven't managed to track down a user manual in english for OpenATV so if someone can point me to one that would be awesome.

The majority of openATV users are not English speakers so English documentation is very light. openATV developers have now standardised in writing ALL code and coder documentation in US English so you may find some assistance in looking at the source code repository. There is some documentation if the /doc directory. enigma2/doc at master . openatv/enigma2 . GitHub.

naigy hat geschrieben:Many advantages to it for the moment and a few drawbacks but hoping as I tweak / get through the huge selection of setup options that i will end up with a far superior option then before and hopefully sort out the drawbacks

If you prefer, the OverlayHD skin from Beyonwiz is now specifically modified to support openATV. This may make your transition a little easier.

If there are any aspects of openATV that you feel are not working for you as an Australian user then feel free to open an issue in the openATV repository Issues . openatv/enigma2 . GitHub. We can't promise to do anything but all comments will be reviewed.

naigy hat geschrieben:One key thing I would like to find out also is when I look at my recordings list ("Enhanced Movie Centre") it often seems to default back to the top of the list. Personally, I prefer to use "Media Selection" rather than EMC. This is far more like the old Beyonwiz experience. You can make this change by going into the EMC settings and disabling EMC.

I hope this helps.

Ian.

Thanks for the informative replies Ian and the links provided. Much appreciated.

Changing that option in EMC makes it so much better (well more what I am used to I guess) but yeah simpler and less stimulating.

Have fiddled more with the arrow based skips and have actually found an option that is working well though as I have hacked setting files I guess it will be prone to break in the future as I do upgrades etc. What I have done is actually stop using the SpecialJump addon and have instead edited the usr/share/enigma2/keymap.xml file directly and added / replaced references to arrow keys to both the <map context="InfobarSeekActions"> and <map context="InfobarSeekActionsPTS"> sections as follows

Code: Alles auswählen

      <key id="KEY_UP" mapto="seekdef:6" flags="m" />
      <key id="KEY_DOWN" mapto="seekdef:4" flags="m" />
      <key id="KEY_LEFT" mapto="seekdef:1" flags="b" />
      <key id="KEY_RIGHT" mapto="seekdef:9" flags="b" />

and then edit the settings in menu -> Playback, Recording & Time Shift -> Playback Settings and adjust skip times as follows for my purpose

Code: Alles auswählen

1/3 Skip = 15 Seconds
4/6 Skip = 60 Seconds
7/9 Skip = 180 Seconds

As a result of the above I now have

Right Arrow = Skip Forward 3 Minutes
Left Arrow = Skip Back 15 Seconds
Up Arrow = Skip Forward 1 Minute
Down Arrow = Skip Backwards 1 Minute

Only downside to this solution I have found so far is it doesn't work for timeshift (rarely in timeshift anyway) and the fact that I would see it likely to fail when upgrades are made but even if it does it is relatively quick to edit and redo.

Note: I realise the flags above are likely incorrect and should all be the same but haven't looked into the use case for each and like I said it works so for the moment I will leave it

Certainly a learning curve but confident so far this has been the right decision and given the uncertainty of Beyonwiz future / forum future even more so.

Hi Naigy,

This is the meaning of the flags in the keymap file (this is also at the top of the file):

Code: Alles auswählen

<!--
Flag meanings in <key /> elements:
"m": Action active on key "Make".
"b": Action active on key "Break".
"r": Action active on key repeats.
"l": Action on long key press.
-->

I haven't looked at the implications of your changes so there may be hidden dangers. Please note that pressing the ARROW buttons on the Beyonwiz switched to timeshift mode, where appropriate, and then did the jump. This will not happen on openATV.

You can save these changes to keymap.xml by creating a subset of the keymap file that only contains the section you changed and putting the file into /etc/enigma2. This file will NOT be overwritten during an upgrade and any data in this file will replace the data in the system version of the file.

Unfortunately, I suspect that the Beyonwiz forum and website is now gone for good. I think the DNS has now expired and may now up for grabs / ransom by cyber-squatters.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi I have now been using OpenATV for a few weeks and mostly happy with it. Have a few minor quirks (mainly due to what I like about Beyonwiz firmware) that I would like to tweak

1. Ability to call up the movie selection list (ie recordings) when a movie file (ie. a recording) is already playing. Thought this may relate to keymapping BUT in experimenting with various Skin options have found some skins allow this (For example BasicHD, BlueAccents) but the overwhelming majority of others don't (Just display the key disabled symbol). Is there a way to change this perhaps in hard coding a config file or a menu item somewhere

2. I am using the Movie Selection mode as opposed to EMC. I would like to be able to do the following
a. ".." Folder (ie. go up a folder / to parent folder) is showing at the bottom of the directories. Is it possible to have it display at the top of the directory list
b. Ideally I would like to have Folders in a date modified order (newest modification at top - ie. if a new recording from the folder is from today it would appear at top assuming no other folders do) and recordings in newest at top order (though below directories list
c. Can I move deleted items (ie. Trash) to the bottom of the list (below all directories and files

3. I am working through the vast variety of skins options to work out the best option but I do keep coming back to OverlayHD as it is very close to what we're used to (but I do like the weather and poster options in some of the others). However in OverlayHD the movie selection list the program description doesn't work when using this skin but for others it does. Is there a setting Im missing.

Thanks again for any advice.

I have no issues doing this. Can you please retest this using the standard openATV configuration. Skins should have no bearing or impact on this functionality!

There are no separate sorting orders for folders. Adding even more options to the sort menu may not be helpful. You could post the request into the repository issues area and see if the idea gets any support.

naigy hat geschrieben: c. Can I move deleted items (ie. Trash) to the bottom of the list (below all directories and files

I don't think this would be at all popular with openATV users. I know that this was done on the Beyonwiz firmware but I never liked it there either. All the folders should be kept together if the folders are grouped.

No, you haven't missed anything. This was a bug in OverlayHD that was recently reported to me and has now been fixed. Please contact me again if this is still an issue for you.

Interesting as I have gone back and forth to these skins a couple of times and each time they work and when I change back to one it didn't work it still doesn't. To clarify by going back to Standard OpenATV settings do you mean going System -> System -> Factory Reset.
If so can I clarify going Menu -> Softeare Management -> Backup System Settings will backup everything so that once I test I can restore back to my start point (I realise I would loose my custom changes I made to keymap files but should everything else be covered

My sort order is currently a mix of "default" and also "by date". This is closest to what I want in that all directories are at the top followed by all recordings. It is important to us that recordings at the bottom are in date order with newest at the top. I have found that "alpha then oldest" is pretty close to what I want for the folder structure though with putting the ".. folder / parent folder near the top under the Deleted Items folder) however the recordings of that folder being in alphabetical doesn't work for us and that is like stated more important to us. Guess this is just something we will have to get used to.

Will try update the OverlayHD skin and retest when I can get control of the TV again.

Thanks again for helping me through this whilst I try to tweak it to the optimum setup.

By reset, I mean to revert any changes you made to any of the system files. I seem to remember you changed the keymap.xml file, this is a file I would like to see reverted for testing. If you changed any other files then these too should be reverted. When your changes are removed then test for the functionality again. If it works then add the changed files one at a time until the issue returns. That should identify the problem.

Remember that I mentioned that playing with keymap.xml can have some unexpected and negative effects. ;)

Thanks Ian,

I got rid of my Keymap changes and also SpecialJump plugin and still had the same issue with some plugins allowing it and others not. As I had opened and possibly edited other files and forgotten I'd done it I have today made a full backup and then done a clean install (without a restore of settings).

After doing that all I have done is follow the setup wizard, including setting timezone details and channel scan. I have then done a disable of EMC and restarted the GUI. I have then done a test and had the same result with not being able to open the Movie Selection if a recording was currently playing so it doesn't appear to be any modifications I have done.

I have also tried flashing the 7.4 beta and get the same result when I follow the same steps from a clean install without any restore or additional plugins. I have however found a possible solution and that is Hotkeys. By going to Menu -> Setup -> Usage and GUI -> Hotkey Settings I was able to program the button I normally press for bring up the Movie Selection to Infobar -> Show Movies and that now works. I have installed a couple of skins some which it did work previously and others that it didn't and it seems to be working consistently. Not sure if using Hotkey may have some negative effect on other things functioning correctly but will wait and see.

Not sure if this may be some sort of bug. My details are I am using a Beyonwiz T4 (currently now on the 7.4beta but was using 7.3) with a Logitech Harmony Ultimate remote. My DVR button is programmed to Media Button as per Logitech Harmony for Beyonwiz but in Hotkeys setup it registers as "Open".

Now that I know more of what I want to setup, which few skins I might want etc. starting fresh will give me a cleaner setup and going to make regular image backups of each step so if I want to revert back I can and also documenting what I am modifying

Can you please give me the exact steps you are taking to trigger the issue. Start from Live TV and give me every button or command you use to get to the issue.

1. Live TV
2. Press DVR Button (ie. Beyonwiz Media Button) which opens up Movie Selection (as EMC is disabled)
3. Press Up / Down Arrows to highlight a previous recording I wish to watch
4. Press OK to commence playback of selected file
5. Some point later decide I want to open the Movie Selection list again (whilst previous file is still playing back)
6. Press the DVR Button (per above the Beyonwiz Media Button)
7. Get the "X" shown on screen as it is a disallowed key.

Note: As a result of me setting up the Hotkey for the DVR Button (ie. Media Button) which Hotkey registers as 'Open' to Infobar -> Show Movie when I get to Step 6 instead of seeing Step 7 I get the Movie Selection list appear as expected but I only gained this functionality by using the Hotkey function or as indicated by using a few "Skins" (such as BasicHD / Blue Accents) which somehow allow the function which I realise is bizarre from looking at them but maybe something is happening for those outside of the "skin" with other external plugin related stuff to those Skins.

I learnt, that while active playback opening the list of recordings simply is done by KEY UP / DOWN. That's also the logic key, for it is assumed, that you want to browse that list.

Interesting. Whilst that is kind of a logical use for those buttons given how it is otherwise set up it doesn't really make sense to me to not have the DVR/Open/Media Button always programmed to open the recording list (from my perspective). As stated I have solved it for me by using Hotkeys to fix this and doesn't seem to have caused any other issue. Also I am utilising my Up and Down arrows for skipping forward and back (along with my arrow buttons which I have done by using custom keymap. Primarily done this as my harmony remote doesn't have a fixed number pad and that is what I am used to from my old Australian Beyonwiz firmware.

Great to be here. A friend told me that OpenATV doesn't allow time skipping using the arrow keys. If this is correct can I suggest it would be a good feature to add

Hi Guys,

Welcome!

I think it might be a good idea to collect all the Beyonwiz firmware features that users would like made available on OpenATV. I can't promise that they will all be added but they will be given serious consideration. I know that most of the European users will not like or want these changes but I hope we can make then a user selectable configuration item that the Beyonwiz users can turn on for themselves. I have already noted the desire for the ARROW button navigation as defined on the Beyonwiz firmware.

In the current developer builds, which are used by testers to ensure correct firmware functionality before a wider release, we are testing a new option in the scanning code that will allow OpenATV to detect and use the LCN channel numbers as used in Australia. This means that you can have any number of bouquets (service lists) and they will *ALL* have the correct service numbering. That is, for example, that ABC HD with be LCN 20 everywhere in the OpenATV UI. Further, you will be able to enter the digits 20 to select ACB HD from any bouquet that contains the ABC HD service. On top of this you will be able to rearrange your bouquets to have the services in any order and you will still get the correct LCNs on all of the services. The option will be found under the ChannelSelection screen, currently activated by the UP or DOWN buttons, press MENU, select "Settings" and change the option "Numbering mode" to "LCN numbering". I hope this option will be widely published soon.

Please remember to use the Plugin Browser to load and install the Australian service picons (tv-australia) as maintained bu Prl. If you are so inclined, you will also find the OverlayHD skin is available in the Skins area of the Plugin Browser. You may also care to go to MENU > Setup > Usage & GUI > Locale / Language Settings and activate English (AU) for Australian English.

As more Beyonwiz users come online and decide to try out OpenATV I ask that you keep an eye open for any issues in functionality, screens designs or anything else that could be improved. Feel free to discuss those issues here and when there is a consensus just open an issue on the OpenATV GitHub repository and it will be considers/fixed. Also, if there is sufficient interest for a dedicated area on this forum for Australian users that is already being planned. We just need enough numbers to justify the reworking of the forum.

Thank you for joining us, I hope you enjoy OpenATV.

Regards,
Ian.
