Attention Australian Beyonwiz Users
Hi,
I note that there has been some recent discussion in the Beyonwiz forums about the ability to run and use openATV in Australia. I am not permitted to openly post on the Beyonwiz forums so I will post my comments here.
The openATV production version is now effectively version 7.0. All previous versions are due to become EOL (End Of Life) by the end of this year. The latest development changes are in the 7.1 build.
Australian use is *fully* supported in openATV. Any hardware that offers a DVB-T or T2 tuner should be usable for all users in Australia. I am an active developer on openATV and all my development continues to be done in Australia. All the tuner data and icons developed by Prl are in active use on openATV. Many of the Beyonwiz enhancements and some of the proposed future enhancements are already active in openATV. For users who liked my OverlayHD skin it too is fully functional and readily available on openATV. English Australian is also a selectable language.
I am not an IceTV user but I believe that Prl's current upgrades to IceTV should also work in openATV. If this is not the case I am sure that we can work together to resolve any issues.
If any Australian users want to try out openATV 7.0 on their Beyonwiz hardware please give it a try. If you find any functionality broken or lacking for your use in Australia then please file issues on the openATV GitHub repository so the openATV team, including me, can address them for you. Remember that I am located in Victoria Australia and use my hardware here with no issues. (I don't have recent Beyonwiz hardware so I can't test Beyonwiz hardware.) I have an AirDigital Zgemma H7C, a GigaBlue UE 4K and a PULSe 4K here for development and they are all working fine here. I know two other Victorian users who use a Beyonwiz T4 and a VU+ DUO 2 respectively with openATV and they work with me to address any issues they find.
I don't normally frequent this forum but I will try to stop by from time to time to address any questions.
12-Aug-2023 Update: I haven't updated this thread for a while. The current production version of openATV is 7.3 and the current development version is 7.4. I believe that all Beyonwiz T, U and V hardware is still fully supported. OverlayHD is officially supported by openATV with all the latest features.
Regards,
Ian.

Hi Mr.Servo,
The Beyonwiz boxes are OEMs of boxes previously available in Europe. The Beyonwiz firmware is an older version of Enigma2 similar to that in use on openATV / OpenViX. It does not get much attention or maintenance any more and hence the interest from Beyonwiz users for something newer. If you are interested, here is a link to the firmware for Beyonwiz: Bitbucket

Hi.
It's probably some stupid anti-campaign made up against OpenATV. There is no need to consult them at all.
When the developers of the Enigma2 distribution, create an image / firmware, that is intended for a specific set-top box, it simply has to be there and everything will work there too... including support and updates.
If something won't work in Australia, maybe just picons or setting like Australian-English and similar nonsense.
However, hardware as such, there is no reason why it should not work. It all depends on the set-top box and not on the country where the set-top box is used. Of course, if the set-top box did not contain support for the DVB system that is used in the respective country, then of course the set-top box will not work in general... and therefore it is useless to talk about any Enigma2 (not only OpenATV, but also other Enigma2 they won't help there).
Any savvy user knows this and laughs at the discussions that are created as an anti-OpenATV campaign.

Hi s3no,
I am not sure what you are trying to say. I am unaware of an anti openATV sentiment.
I am simply offering Australian users a place to check in and discuss their needs and experiences if they want to give openATV a try. The Beyonwiz firmware is no longer being maintained or updated.
An issue for Australian users is that Australia uses DVB-T exclusively and most of the box makers are now removing DVB-T tuners from their devices. This makes it very difficult for Australian users to purchase updated hardware. Any affordable hardware that offers at least two integrated DVB-T tuners would be welcomed. The Beyonwiz T4 was a fantastic box and had four internal DVB-T tuners. openATV offers Beyonwiz users a path to keeping their hardware and accessing an image that is being updated and maintained.

I wrote about the fact that you cannot contribute to the mentioned forum . I thought you were banned from this forum . And that someone claimed that you can't use OpenATV in Australia. Which I think is bullshit, because that's only given by the set-top box, not the country. If you buy a set top box whose tuner supports DVB standards in Australia + a set top box that also allows you to record OpenATV, then there is no problem.
Hi s3n0,
Thanks for the clarification. I am not too fussed about being unable to post on the Beyonwiz forum as I am now a full time openATV developer. My concern is more for the other Beyonwiz owners who may not understand that they have real options to get a supported firmware for their boxes.

Oh... OK... that's right.
"People need to be taught how to think, not what they think." (Georg Christoph Lichtenberg)
Btw, what DVB standard is used in Australia ? The same as in Europe ? DVB-S2 + H.264 / H.265 ?
Unfortunately, I personally have no connection with Australia. Only when... sometimes I watch an older guy on Twitch - rev_vapelord: Twitch :-D. It's fun with him :).

Really appreciate the English section, thank God for Google Translate though
I just put the latest version of Open ATV on my Beyonwiz V2, (openatv-7.3-beyonwizv2-20231130_recovery_emmc) and I have questions... Ok, first up, on the original FW to access the network, I went into the Media section where recordings are stored and hit the Yellow button to change to whatever network folders I have registered in the box. However, with Open ATV there is no way to set any button to find the external drives, network or otherwise. I realise I must be missing the obvious, but I can not find a way to access the registered network folder on my NAS. The new FW is a little more convoluted than the original, and I found where you can change the coloured button functions, but nothing about changing a directory or location? If someone could help out, I would appreciate it greatly. No doubt once I sort that out, there will be more questions, so thanks in advance.

Welcome @Nodeity.
I also use Google Translate but @Jbleyel, a co-developer, is a massive help with highlighting and translating posts about which I need to know.
When you go to the Media Player pressing YELLOW, to access Bookmarks, will allow you to access any of your network mounts. If the device is not currently mounted then use MENU > Setup > System > Network > Mounts Settings and then use Network Browser or Mount Manager to select and mount your networked devices. These screens should match your experiences on the Beyonwiz firmware.
If I have misunderstood the questions then please rephrase and ask again.

Thank you, I set the yellow button to "Open E2 Bookmarks" and it built a list to choose from. Not as intuitive as I'd like, but it works. The old FW keeps those bookmarks stored on the HDD even after a hard reboot, but the Open ATV FW doesn't, which is a pain, but I can live with it. Much appreciated. As I mentioned earlier, the new FW is somewhat convoluted compared to the old, so no doubt I will have many more questions, I hope I don't test your patience too much
openATV should not be so different from the Beyonwiz firmware except that all the International options are available. The Beyonwiz firmware had many of the options removed as they do not apply to Australia. When you find a menu item equivalent to a menu item in the Beyonwiz firmware then functionality should be similar.
I have been continuing my design and coding style since I left development on Beyonwiz. What you see in openATV is the latest versions of this style. If you prefer, the OverlayHD skin is now being actively developed and maintained for openATV. It may give you a slightly more familiar UI.

I wouldn't mind trying the "OverlayHD" version to see if it's a better fit for me before I fully commit to this one, where can I download it? Thanks
