Loss of WiFi network with version 7.5.1 (in english section because i can't read the others one, thank's)

Can this topic stay in the English section, please ?

Hi everybody

I went from 7.4 to 7.5.1 and it’s been 2 times that I lose all network (local and internet).
This does not happen immediately but after a few days of use.
I specify that I mainly use my vu+ to read files on my nas.
The only solution I found was to go back to 7.4 where everything works properly again.

With 7.4, I have absolutely no problem, it is only with 7.5.1 that the problem occurs.

What can be done ?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi.

What have you tried to do ?

Press the blue button na the RCU and try to work on the problem a little :). You can find various functions in the network MENU there.

For example, show ifno about the network in your set-top box. Try is as first. Create a photo of the status / information from the network interface... please... and insert it here in the discussion.

Maybe your router's DNS server is not communicating properly with your set-top box for some incomprehensible reason.

Maybe the driver used in the OpenATV 7.5.1 firmware for your NIC (Network Interface Card) present in the set-top box is faulty or some other library does not cooperate with the NIC driver.

Then try to restart the entire LAN network via MENU - this should restart the entire Linux-based network interface.

Try replacing the RJ-45 cable as well - preferably with shielding (aluminum foil) connected to one side of the RJ-45 connector and grounding on one side (the set-top box or WIFI router must have an RJ-45 connector with a metal shielding). I know it's stupid advice, but it helped me - in the case of another version, another set-top box, when the internet sometimes dropped out and restarted automatically. I could also say then that there was a bug in OpenATV. But it could also be that the NIC driver started working differently and needed a shielded connection to the RJ-45 cable :). When I replaced the regular RJ-45 cable with a shielded cable, the problems with the dropping internet in my set-top box ended.

Of course, I'm just guessing... because the bug could be anywhere. Or have you already tried to roll back OpenATV 7.4 ? And everything with the old OpenATV works again? Just to make sure it's really the firmware that's faulty. Not the set-top box hardware or the RJ-45 cable.

What have you tried to do ?
First, I tried to reinstall the wifi network, but as it did not work, I tried in RJ45.
Ca worked, but it does not suit me, because I have a better wifi connection than wired because I go through CPL.
Then, the only solution I found was to flash my last backup of 7.4 and it worked perfectly again.
I then redid the flash of 7.5.1 and as the first time, everything worked a few days, then the problem occurred again.
So I recharged the 7.4 and since no more trouble.
I don’t think to recharge the 7.5.1 which poses too many problems, but I’m waiting for the 7.6

Unfortunately, I can not make a picture of the network information because I went back to 7.4, but if I try again experience, I will try to think about doing it.

As I said, in RJ45, it seemed to work normally, but I wanted to go back to wifi because I have a better connection.
Indeed, the rj45 goes through a CPL socket and the box is less than 2M from the vu+ for wifi (but I can’t use cable because it’s a passage between the 2)

I think there is really a problem with this version 7.5 since with the 7.4 everything works perfectly.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to answer me.

For now, I stay in 7.4 which works perfectly, but I will test 7.6 as soon as it is in final version.

So there's a problem with the WIFI connection... to sum it all up... right ?

Absolutely, but only with the version 7.5.1, the version 7.4 works perfectly.

This is probably a stupid tip... but have you tried using a USB WiFi dongle instead of the built-in (on-board) WiFi chipset ?

Then @Papi2000 should edit the thread topic. Because it's a WiFi problem on your set-top box. And not as you write - a problem with the internet.

I can't tell you where the problem might be.

If you turn on the debug-log in the OpenATV settings + then restart GUI, you probably won't find it there in case of WiFi failure.

It would help if, at the moment of WiFi failure in the set-top box, you connect the LAN cable, and then try to do something via terminal connection, such as looking at the kernel messages for any WiFi troubles:
dmesg | tail -20
Or better yet, manually view the contents of the files (kernel messages - like dmesg), which you can find in OpenATV, at the following location:
/var/log/messages
/var/log/messages.0

Or check the status of network interfaces:
ifconfig
iwconfig

Although I admit that it is a bit complicated, because in the moment of WiFi failure, you have to switch the interface used from WiFi network >> to >> LAN network. But this can also be done in the GUI MENU directly in Enigma2, using RCU.

I can't give you the exact details, but maybe someone from the OpenATV development team could.

In that case, i would think about power management. I don't know about your VU+ driver and energy save settings. That might be set in the drivers. There must look someone with your box and the logs.

I do not have a wifi dongle to test.
Anyway, being gone back on version 7.4, and everything works properly, it is useless to go look in the logs.

Now I’m waiting for the stable version 7.6 to try again a flash.

Hi.

OK and in the case of OpenATV 7.4 the WiFi problem does not appear for several days ? Have you tested it for a long time ? Because you mentioned that the problem with the built-in WiFi does not appear in new OpenATV versions only after some time (days or hours).

It would be good to track and investigate and find out when exactly... or based on what... the problem with the built-in WiFi occurs. It would really help if you at least connected the RJ-45 cable afterwards (or in case you always have it connected just switch the network interface from WiFi to RJ-45 / LAN / Ethernet using the OpenATV GUI) and monitored via terminal connection, if by chance something about the problem is recorded in the kernel message log. As I wrote above. If there is nothing there, it does not matter. But it is definitely worth a try. This will help the OpenATV developers to further solve this particular problem.

You should not be satisfied with reporting the problem and not providing information. If you are reporting a problem, it is advisable to write as many details and findings as possible.

I would like to know if this problem with WiFi and OpenATV 7.5.1 also exists on other Vu+ Duo 4K devices (devices of other users).

Yes, absolutly.

If I can help, it will be with pleasure, but for the moment no problem.
If I use rj45, I have to go through a cpl socket and the connection is then less good than with wifi (I have slowdowns or crashes when viewing video)

I cannot answer this question for other devices.
I have been using OpenATV for many versions and this is the first time (with 7.5.1) that I have these kind of problems
I stay in 7.4 and I do not intend to retest the 7.5.1; I wait for the final version of the 7.6.

In any case, thank you for taking the time to answer me :good2:
