OpenATV vs BT headphones ? it is possible to do it ?

Beitrag von s3n0 »

Hi.

Does anyone have experience with Bluetooth vs. OpenATV ? I would like to use BT headphones for my father - old age pensioner. However, I don't know and have no experience if the Bluetooth will work.

My build is:

- set-top box: Vu+ Zero 4K
- firmware: OpenATV 7.4 / linux kernel 4.1.20

I know... there is an original "VU+ Wireless USB Bluetooth 4.1 USB Dongle" but... the question is whether it will work on the said build.

I'm a little surprised at the list or the content of the feed. I don't see anything there that could work specifically with the original Vu+ BT USB dongle. I mean the chipset on this USB dongle:

Code: Alles auswählen

root@vuzero4k:~# opkg list | grep bluetooth
enigma2-plugin-drivers-extrahw-bluetooth - 1.0-r0 - Collection of bluetooth drivers
 Collection of bluetooth drivers.
enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-bluetoothsetup - 7.4+gitr3631+4a326850+4a32685934-r2 - systemplugins-bluetoothsetup
 E2 bluetooth plugin
kernel-module-bluetooth-4.1.20-1.9 - 4.1.20-oea4.1-r7 - bluetooth kernel module
bluetooth kernel module; Bluetooth Core ver 2.20
packagegroup-base-bluetooth - 1.0-r0 - Bluetooth support
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth-discover - 17.0-r0 - PulseAudio module for bluetooth-discover
 PulseAudio module for bluetooth-discover
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth-policy - 17.0-r0 - PulseAudio module for bluetooth-policy
 PulseAudio module for bluetooth-policy
rt8723bs - 4.4.1-4.1.20-r3 - Driver for Realtek 8723BS wireless/bluetooth devices
Driver for Realtek 8723BS wireless/bluetooth devices.
vuplus-bluetooth-util-vuzero4k - 1.0-20171114.r0 - vuplus-bluetooth-util-vuzero4k version 1.0-20171114.r0
 vuplus-bluetooth-util-vuzero4k version 1.0-20171114.r0.

Will the mentioned USB BT dongle work on my set ?

And will it even be possible to connect/pair and then use some BT headphones as audio output of the set-top box ?

Thanks.

Different stb but I used a Broadcom BCM20702 Bluetooth 4.0 +HS USB Device to get headphones working on my Gigablue UHD Quad 4k before I bought smart tv with bluetooth
actuall device is called MPOW Wireless USB Dongle BH079A

opkg update
opkg install bluetoothsetup-gb7252
reboot

After restarting: -> Menu -> Settings -> Operation & Interface -> Bluetooth Setup

- Search with blue and then depending on the audio device 1. or 2.
- then connect with green

As I mentioned different stb but hopefully info may help

You expect when they advertise bluetooth on stb that it is for audio not just other devices like keyboards

Do not use the BT direct in the box. Too many limitations in usage, and E2-driver needed.
Use an TOSLink-to-BT adapter. Once installed, ever working in each image with each device.
If your TOSLink allready is used for AVR, just split the signal - no problem.

Oh... OK... thanks. That's a nice thought. However, the optical audio (Toslink, S/PDiF - optical cables) output is only digital. The converter will have to be connected to the electricity / power adapter. The microprocessor converts the sound to another. So there must be electrical power for the processor. In that case, it will be better to use BT from the TV. And pair the BT headphones with the TV. I just wanted it to be output from the set-top box. Then it is possible to listen to, for example, satellite radio without the TV on.

I am mainly interested in the fact that, firstly, OpenATV 7.4 has support in the editions for Vu+ Zero 4K and for this USB <-> BT dongle, original from Vu+.

And secondly, whether OpenATV 7.4, like Enigma2, can direct the audio output to later paired audio BT device (BT headphones).

No, not complete true. The adapters I use get it's power from an USB port in the boxes. There are enough for that usecase, because the usage is typically in an environment, where not all USBs are used for mass storages (older persons - you amentionened). And Yes. Transfer is without interferences and digital. Perfect. for cheap or most expensive headphones, stereo downmix fits perfect. I have tested much also with manufacturers. I use them since over six years, and no lipsync or other trouble. And the best: the rest of the family can hear the original sound via TV, if wanted. Try that with BT phones to the box or TV - NO way.

If you want to use the receiver only for radio without TV On I am using a simple solution.
I connect my BT-set to my Android-tablet and listen via OpenWebif.
I could not manage to connect a BT-audiodevice to any of my Gigablue boxes.
Even though there are settings and installable BT-manager available for this purpose.

@hammu

No, it's not just a radio restream via satellite reception. I really want it for my father, so he can watch satellite channels. The father is a pensioner and already hard of hearing. So we solve BT hearing aids so that the TV is not played very loudly in the house.

@Papi2000

So whether there is a power source from USB or a separate adapter from the 230V network, it will still consume extra electricity. We still have to add recharging of BT hearing aids or frequent connection of the cable for charging :). It does not matter.

Can you please give me a link to something like you describe ? I can not find it. I'm probably using inappropriate search strings for the Google algorithm. Thanks

For high flexability, I last time bought such devices (8 bugs at ali):
3.5 mm BT Sender Empfanger Stereo Audio Adapter aptx Toslink BTI-029 XY | eBay

This device can operate in both directions, and can be used universal.

Der Dateianhang TOSLink-to-BT-eBay.jpg existiert nicht mehr.

Simpler devices can be found without TOSLink, but uses 3,5mm jack stereo out (receiver must have that!).
Bluetooth 5.0 Empfanger Transmitter Sender Receiver Stereo Audio Musik Adapter | eBay

oder stöbern:
https://de.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-toslink-to-bluetooth.html?spm=a2g0o.home.search.0

By the way:
Usage. Receiver sound = 100% - ever!
TV / AVR regulates the room volume.
Headphones regulate the individual.
All not linked together, and usable at the same time. Cheap italian BT-headphones are missing often the volume control. Better use Jabra Elite 45h or similar.

Thanks... but... I wanted something reliable. Not AliExpress.

Although not everything is fake on AliExpress, these things, which are made by few people, are hard to trust. It may break after a few weeks or there may be any overlooked BUG (e.g. some game is different and there is already a risk that something will not work correctly). It always happens with all devices even with popular brands. For example, WiFi-routers or PC mother-boards are produced in different HW revisions. This is because there is always some small bug that can cause problems and the manufacturer tries to fix it by releasing a new HW version of the PCB.

Let me think of an example: The manufacturer of WiFi routers misjudges the antenna amplifier, considering the strength and gain of the WiFi antennas used. This results in, for example, every 50th WIFI router being damaged - the antenna amplifier burns out. Therefore, the router manufacturer will make a new HW version of the router, where all the necessary semiconductor components will already be sufficiently re-evaluated.

Unfortunately, in the case of small producers who invent a big thing, it often ends up with similar problems. There are a lot of these device manufacturers on AliExpress.

Take the part from eBay. They work.
Unfortunately you missunderstood it.
I gave you a sample link to a reliable product at eBay.
If you don't like it, don't buy it.
Then good luck at driver search and never ending troubleshooting.

OK... so... I finally bought the original "Vu+ Bluetooh 4.1 USB dongle" (about 17 EUR) and it works fine.

However, I installed two more "bluetooth" packages:

Code: Alles auswählen

opkg update
opkg install opkg install enigma2-plugin-drivers-extrahw-bluetooth enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-bluetoothsetup

Just for clarification... my setup is: Vu+ Zero 4K / OpenATV 7.4

So I encountered another problem on my Vu+Zero4K... and that is the availability of only 1 x USB 2.0 port - on the back panel of this set-top box.

Although some sources claim that it is possible to connect a USB HUB there... I was afraid of that. It works for some people but not for others. It must be some kind of standardized USB HUB, without any extra processors / chips / modules... to work properly.

Finally, I discovered information on the Internet (on the Black-Hole discussion forum) that the Vu+Zero4K has a second USB 2.0 port on the bottom. It is the connector originally intended for connecting / docking an external drive. However, this connector on the bottom of the set-top box is a standard USB 2.0 port. An HDD docking box is connected to it, which contains a USB <-> SATA interface and a SATA disk inside. That's why even this docking external disk works - when connected to the set-top box.

I therefore created a simple, second USB 2.0 output - see screenshots. And I connected the Vu+ Bluetooth 4.1 USB Dongle there. And everything works ! :-)

Thanks.

So... good work... I think this is not good work :) .

For example, the "shrink tube" could have been a bit longer to cover the entire USB connector :) . Also, the soldering could have been more substantial :) - more soldering tin for the USB connector.

And I still have to buy something to lift the set-top box, since the PCB is about 2mm thick. And for that there is a piece of black plastic on all the pins. And there is still some soldering on the bottom side of the PCB. So I should raise the set-top box higher... for example by sticking small, self-adhesive pads, about 3-4mm thick. But in my opinion, this lifting will also help in cooling the set-top box, because this Vu+Zero4K is quite hot :-/. In my opinion, the cooling is insufficient - ineffective if it has such very low legs. Although there are small holes on the sides in the plastic cover, but that is not enough in my opinion.
