Hi Guys,
I wonder if you can help.
I'm using Open ATV 7.0, my picon's were downloaded as a package and I update these through the menu > setup > software management > software update.
This is ok but there appears to be a significant delay in the new picon package becoming available.
When I use Open ATV 7.3 this doesn't appear to have a delay, however I use 7.0 daily.
Am I using the correct practice to update the picons using Open ATV 7.0?
Why the delay between 7.0 and 7.3?
Kind regards
Picon updating

Hi.
Backing up is a little more complicated. If you are experienced in the IT field, this will not be a problem.
You can also use backup directly in OpenATV, via the GUI MENU, but I don't think it's reliable. I tried it a couple of times, but always with a bad experience.
Also, for example, you can, after modifying it to your image (regarding folders and files for backup), use my backup shell-script:

But... if you are not experienced IT professionals, it will unfortunately be more complicated for you.
As for backing up the softcam (the most used are Oscam and CCcam), it depends on which softcam you use. As a rule, one always backs up the correct configuration files - belonging to a specific type of softcam. For better support and for more info about softcams, you have to visit another discussion forum, since softcams are not supported here.

It's not true. I tried backing up + restoring data separately. But it didn't work. Data recovery did not work after the update. Probably, paradoxically, in the newer version of OpenATV, there was again a newer backup tool that could not process the data from the old backup tool.
But I also tried about 2 times to perform a LIVE update of the newer OpenATV directly from the GUI MENU with the help of RCU. That is, updating to a new version - online from the Internet. Of course, including automatic backup and recovery. But it didn't work well. There are problems, for example, with restoring the Metrix SKIN configuration.
Also, there are many impossible solutions - regarding backup and recovery of data in Enigma2. For example, the old YouTube plugin uses different configuration items and other settings... which, however, do not work in the backup, from the old version of the YouTube plugin. This is a new plugin and requires a new configuration or reconfiguration... unfortunately.
It's like the "Linux factor" . Linux OS is a perfect, great, fine-tuned operating system... but unfortunately everything about Linux requires a good and experienced administrator. Otherwise, this Linux will not work quite reliably. Linux is a system that does not think for the user, just like the Windows system. Linux does what the user tells it to do. And that's great . Windows does what it wants to do ... and doesn't ask anything from the user . However, humans cannot tell the system what to do correctly. And so it is with the mentioned example of the YouTube plugin (without advertising, developed by third parties, free of charge, for all Linux set-top boxes). It's a great project... this Youtube plugin in Enigma2, but unfortunately it often requires an experienced user. But so do many other things in Enigma2. That's why I personally use my own shell script for backup... but even that needs to be modified according to your own needs (if another user wants to use it).
