Image name in Multiboot Manager
Would there be anyway it could be made possible to add coment or rename images in multiboot manager to make it easier to identify.
sometimes you can have same image only difference is by date but plugins installed may be different or you may just be testing.
even when making full image backups i have to manually rename images so i know what differencies there are rather than just date.

I read somewhere that if you use the software update, this text will be restored to its original state.
Leave the \n and \l characters there. Add only the text you need to identify the image. Example:
- original file:
- new file:
Basic man-page for /etc/issue file:
Ubuntu Manpage: issue - prelogin message and identification file
Explained "escape" characters:
Ubuntu Manpage: agetty - alternative Linux getty
Leave the \n and \l characters there. Add only the text you need to identify the image. Example:
- original file:
Code: Alles auswählen
openatv 7.3 \n \l
- new file:
Code: Alles auswählen
openatv 7.3 - my image for testing purposes \n \l
Basic man-page for /etc/issue file:
Ubuntu Manpage: issue - prelogin message and identification file
Explained "escape" characters:
Ubuntu Manpage: agetty - alternative Linux getty
Code: Alles auswählen
l Insert the name of the current tty line.
n Insert the nodename of the machine, also known as the hostname. Same as `uname -n'.

Did the "/etc/issue" file get changed (as you wanted) ? Or has it returned to its original state ? Check him out.
Btw, I am talking about the file "/etc/issue" in the internal flash memory of the set-top box. I don't know if it is necessary to change all of them (also in the directory structure of the other images). However, you definitely have to change the file in which you installed open multiboot and which is considered the main firmware (i.e. the image installed as the majority, in the internal flash memory of the set-top box).
I haven't tested it, so I can't give 100% advice. I'm just inferring . Sorry.

@captain any way if possible to add comment when saving image backups or when in multiboot so you know what image you are using because you can have two or three openatv 7.3 images and have updated all on same day and only way to tell is time they were updated

Have you tried the following way ?
Plugins MENU > Open Multiboot > press the red button on the RCU > change the E2 image NAME as you need > ...and finally... then... press the green button on the RCU
