Internal hard disk no longer visible after installing image 7.3
I have a Tiviar Alpha Plus box with Opena.tv installed.
I recently upgraded to the new image 7.3, with no problems.
My Tiviar box has an internal HDD installed, which was visible and working before I did the upgrade.
The issue is that the HDD is not longer visible.
When I check under menu option "Information"-> "Storage / Disks", it shows the "internal flash" details and underneath it states "No storage or hard disks detected"
Also under menu option "System" -> "Setup", there is no option showing for "Storage"
Any help in resolving this would be much appreciated.

Which was it?
How was the drive formatted?
Thanks for your reply Ralf.
Reading your first question, I think that may be the issue - I did not do any restore of settings.
I have a file called enigma2settingsbackup.tar from the backup of the previous system version.
Is this the one that I need to restore?
Can you point me to some guidance / instructions on how I do the restore? I don't have much experience with this!
Thanks

Hi.
Don't you mean my shell script for e2 plugins + e2 settings backup and recovery ? https://github.com/s3n0/e2scripts/blob/master/backrest
This shell script creates a similar or identically named ".tar.gz" backup file.
In the shell script, before using it, you have to check (modify or set) the correct directory with the backup ".tar.gz" files. Then you have to create (if it doesn't exist) a directory using an FTP connection (for example). There you upload your ".tar.gz" backup file.
And finally, you start the recovery via my shell script, which of course you have to upload to the set-top box and modify its attributes for launch.
However, all of this applies ONLY IF you actually made a backup with this mentioned shell script of mine.
Or how did you make your backup process ? Write exactly how. Did you use the built-in function in OpenATV ?
---------------------------------------------
If you set everything to the original state and only the HDD does not work and if you do not need to restore from a backup... then try the following:
1. disconnect the HDD
2. connect the HDD and wait about 30 seconds
3. use the command in the linux terminal, show what is displayed in the terminal:

Hi s2n0 - thanks for your reply.
For the backup I used the built in function of OpenATV
So, I followed your suggestion and disconnected the HDD and wait for 30 seconds.
I then used the "dmesg | tail" command as you suggested.
This is the response I received........
Any suggestions oh what to do next ?
Thanks

Just to add to my previous reply.
I noticed that the HDD beeps when I reboot the box.
When I Google these symptoms, I get responses along the lines..........
"When the heads are stuck on the platters, the drive will beep. With smaller 2.5″ Seagate drives, the motor cannot spin if the heads/sliders are on the platter.
When this happens, you will hear the drive beep. This most often occurs due to a drop."
So, perhaps the issue is that my Seagate hard drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Thanks

I really don't know... try to take the HDD out and test it in the PC.
Is this HDD already formatted correctly ? Do you have any important data stored on that HDD ?
According to the syslog dump with "dmesg", the ata1 device is indeed showing some problem. But I don't know why.
EDIT:
Oh... you have an internal disk, sorry. Not external . I thought it was an external drive (USB). The internal disk must not be disconnected while the set-top box is running, but only when the set-top box is turned off.
Maybe more information about mounting and connecting the device, this command will say:
However, it is still true that the internal HDD should not be manually disconnected while the set-top box is running.
Also, what you described could be true with the HDD beeping.

Problem resolved. I removed the damaged internal HDD (there was no data on it I needed to recovered).
In then installed in the Tiviar Alpha Plus box a 240GB SSD that I had from an old Laptop.
Once I rebooted, the SSD was recognised and I was able to format it using the OpenATV Menu.
S3n0, thank you very much for your assistance and making various suggestions.
