Again sorry for my english here in the italian section of the board...
Samba runs default - without any installation - in each oATV since ever. Just set password in the network settings for your box. Use user "root" and password for access to
\\IP_OF_THE_BOX\Harddisk
via CIFS/ Samba.
Remember: You must have a data storage device connected to box, and mounted to /media/hdd. Without a data storage device, there is no access to the box via CIFS / Samba possible.

Your english is ok (at least for me !).
If there is another forum zone better than this show me pls.
I set the password, checked that the hdd is working and correctly recognized.
Still can't connect as look like smbd & nmbd dosn't run.
A quick port scan of the reciver shows only port 80 open.

As you can see, no smbd nor nmbd running...
And yes, i put password to login.
No idea on HOW I can start samba services.

You have restored some old settings?
I don't understand, why you installed the additional packages.
Let's try to repair Samba:

opkg --force-reinstall --force-depends --force-maintainer install samba-base
/etc/init.d/samba restart
testparm

That gives additional hints while starting Samba manually.

Ah OK - Spark SH4. These CPUs better have run a Spark image, if it is available (for the sogno SH4 for example the only possibility).
The actual oATV build afaik is not passing with Samba activated because of the drivers. The older oATV had older Samba versions.
