ThemenstarterBtw, does anyone know which uchardet (and other files?) one should install for XBMC 13, to make it minimally functional again?
I tried with some stuff I found but it didn't do any good... The same problems installing addons... Sadly!
In SuperRepo Gotham addons do not work, as I think systemic things are missing/old and then...

Thanks for the reply!
Sorry I wasn't clear about the USB. I flashed 3 different images using a USB thumbdrive. If I remove the USB devices, can I flash an image without access to the menu for internet update?
I don't understand where the menu went, but after the deleting /usr/share/xbmc/addons/ and /mnt/hdd0/program/.xbmc/addons, the box still has channel settings somewhere. Since the problem began after a bouquet and satellites.xml FTP upload to /tmp/enigma2/ and Blackhole tools "Import Enigma 2 Settings", I'd like to try to remove all channel information that might be causing the problem...but I don't know where Prismcube puts those files it converted.
Is there a difference between the flash files in the update_ruby folder and uldr.bin.uartboot_img with u-boot.bin via serial? The update_ruby folders contain uldr.bin.uartboot_img and u-boot.bin.
I guess I'm confused about why the menu is not restored after flashing and where to find the channel information so I can try deleting that before flashing.
I don't have a null modem cable and the USB to serial adapter I would need to flash via RS-232 port, so I'm trying to work around that. I don't have a jumper either, but a paper clip works fine.

ThemenstarterNull-modem cable is dirt cheap to make and even I can do it.

Success!
To recap the problem: I loaded a channel settings to /tmp/enigma2/ for import by Blackhole Enigma2. The box started to reboot at random times, the small cogwheel in the upper right never stopped spinning, and I lost access to the GUI menu. The settings files did pass the Blackhole check, but were probably corrupt in some way. The XML did not display correctly in xed when I checked it later. I flashed 3 different images to the box using a USB thumbdrive, but this did not help at all.
Here's how the problem got sorted:
1.) Use Filezilla - I'm on Linux, but Filezilla works on Windows. PrismcubeManager seems to work under wine, too - to delete ALL files in these directories:
Code:/usr/share/ /tmp/ /mtmp/ /config/
2.) After all the above directories were finally empty, telnet to the box and run shutdown.
3.) Put a thumbdrive with an update image (I used a Blachole image that had not worked before) in the USB port.
4.) Power on the box and follow the instructions on the screen or LED display to flash from USB.
That's it. There seems to be no need to use serial update if you have USB functionality.
Like I always say: "If you don't understand something, just delete it".
Hope this helps someone!

Prismcube Ruby Hobbyists ?
I did. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
In fairness, the bug was documented in the Black Hole Prism 2.1.11 announcements, but without any solution:
Known bugs:
The import / export e2 settings support is purely experimental.
It may not work with long channel lists ( > 2 satellites) and could also lose the channel crypto system info. Anyway we strongly recommend you perform a new scan after importing a channel list.
That's more or less what I did, I think, so I guess I should have read that part before I did it
Is anyone still playing around with this box?
As I recall, the images were poorly documented and buggy. Support now seems to have disappeared entirely. Update and add-on links in the image don't work, etc.
I'd like some add-ons, like, "Gigant Addons Pack for PrismCube Ruby", a decent EPG, and picons - but all links I've found are dead. I also read that some people had had some luck running full Kodi rather than XBMC on Prismcubes and would like to try that.
For now, I can't even load a skin manually because I can't find any. I can't easily modify the configs or anything else on the image because the structure is fairly byzantine.
Nevertheless, it seems like a good hobby project, especially for people who saved or can access documentation and addons.

ThemenstarterSome of the best amongst us tell me it's a waste of time...
From the start it was all doomed, since the bizarre choice of processor onwards... Not to mention the "DMM act by proxy" re. XBMC4E2!
All the sources were closed so a good team couldn't really add anything seriously valuable, even if they were really good at writing drivers etc.
The structure is bonkers, as there seem to be 2 XBMC's in there and... Achhh, forget it, m8... Not even the sat TV part is done properly, let alone anything else, especially given that Gotham is now really old, unsupported, dependencies in Ruby are fooked and it just isn't working...

I've made some progress - nothing fancy at all, but the reveiver is working as a decent FTA with dual-channel record while watching a third.
Three main issues I'd like to sort out:
1.) SKIN - Edit the default xbmc confluence skin so the info is easier to read (larger font, better contrast colors - whatever works).
2.) EPG - Can't get the EPG to save at all. CrossEPG doesn't work, but I hate it anyway.
3.) CS - Trying to get Oscam/Cccam to work on the default (not Black Hole) image. Configs are there. Can't start it up or open the port 8888 webif.
I'm on 28.2E. Anyone know if CS clears anything at all on SKY UK - even the FTA Irish channels that Sky blocks on the satellite?
I've lost whatever skin editor I used and can't find it again. Anyone know of a link to a decent skin editor?
Oh and I don't know the elmo password to mount the native file system so I'm stuck with samba which is really slow. Don't even need to talk about trying to sort through Prismcube's file system with FTP :-(
Thanks in advance!
