Can I use OpenATV for IPTV?
I really know anything about IPTV apart from it being the the reception of TV via the Internet....
I'm about to start an contract with an ISP who also includes some TV channels and would like to know how the process works.

Box 1:Vu+ Zero 4KBox 2:Vu+ Solo SE V2Box 3:Formuer F4-TURBOThis is very questionable. Today, the term IPTV is unfortunately also called ordinary streaming of encoded multimedia from the Internet. Therefore, your question is quite debatable. It depends on the raw format in which the stream or video is distributed online.
Originally, the term IPTV was used only in conjunction with the DVB standard. So it was a spread on a computer network platform and it was literally a TV broadcast on LAN networks. Today there is only mishmash in these terms. It should always be right to talk about streaming multimedia LIVE video. IP-TV consists of your shortcuts and the first is IP technology and the second is TV based on digital DVB technology. The best term I use but is not used is DVB-IP. The term IPTV is very universal and today does not mean the same idea as it was 20 years ago.
So it depends on the format. I suppose it will be some streamable audio / video format (codec). You need to find out what the format is and how it is coded or protected. Each server or service can distribute its broadcast differently. For example, Youtube creates a sequence of streaming URLs with selected video and audio quality based on a video ID code that only lasts a few hours. These URLs can be opened in anything. However, you cannot "play" the video ID itself. You must first get the URLs of the online multimedia stream from Youtube.
Therefore, it also depends on how your provider works. However, you may not be able to watch TV in Enigma. Usually each provider offers its set top box with its own architecture and software. It is not always possible to run "IPTV" in its own alternative set top box (eg in a Linux set-top box).
In Enigma it is possible to stream online media via Gstreamer (part of the firmware in the Linux set top box) and is used under service number 4097 via userbouquet files. A small example and explanations here:
IPTV #SERVICE 4097 and #SERVICE 1 syntax
The basic format of Gstreamer's online streaming media (service number 4097 in Enigma userbouquets) is as follows:
Code:#SERVICE 4097:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:http%3a//213.81.170.239/live002/channel030_p5.stream/chunklist_w2094954562.m3u8:WAU
On the internet, you can find a lot about the issue of streaming online media through Enigma. Try to search .
Of course, not all video formats are supported in Gstreamer.Geändert von s3n0 (16.01.2020 um 09:42 Uhr)

ThemenstarterStill not sure how this works... Can I subscribe to some IPTV service and then do I just connect to a particular channel and watch it through some program? Or can I stream channels that my STB receives over my LAN so that any workstation can have access?
Sorry for the questions but I can't get a grip on how this all works. Am I correct in thinking you can use an Amazon Fire Stick to watch IPTV?

Box 1:Vu+ Zero 4KBox 2:Vu+ Solo SE V2Box 3:Formuer F4-TURBOFirst of all you have to know the format of the so-called "IPTV" broadcasting (I have already explained it above).
If it is a local broadcast in the network, via the UDP protocol, then it depends on the format of the stream and the type of server (connection / user authentication).
If it is the Internet, then it also depends on the stream format. It is individual for different formats. In the case of local distribution, you need to know something about DVB technology if the broadcaster (DVB provider) uses it.
You should also know at least something about streaming over a computer network in general. If the connection is via the Internet (ie not broadcast via UDP protocol), the situation is different there as well.
It's quite complicated. Unfortunately, you have to know exactly what you want to attach in the set top box. From what source and what type of stream you need to receive.
Most IPTV providers in the optical network supply their own set top boxes with their own firmware and reject those boxes with Enigma. The formats also vary. It is really up to the broadcaster to determine what format (architecture) it will use. It does not have to be the DVB technology that the provider uses.

ThemenstarterIf I get an Amazon Fire Stick, I understand I can use it for IPTV? How does that work?
On other satellite forums I see mention of 'Enigma2 IPTV Plugins' but I don't see anything like a basic beginners guide so don't know where to start. I don't want to subscribe to a service until I know I can make use of it.

Box 1:Vu+ Zero 4KBox 2:Vu+ Solo SE V2Box 3:Formuer F4-TURBOUsually, this term is very improperly referred to as streaming television on the internet. However, this IPTV term does not say that any special IPTV client (VLC Player, set top box, interactive web-page, YouTube page, HTML-5 player, etc.) is required to watch the stream, nor does the IPTV term any AV stream format and also in the term IPTV has no standard in the perception of ordinary users (as we are all).
However, this is not a real IP-TV (TV broadcast based on IP addresses and broadcasting between IP addresses, e.g. UDP protocol).
Unfortunately for IP-TV today is also a live stream on Youtube, if any company broadcast news, weather, reality show, etc. .
The abbreviation of IPTV comes from the time when the term VoIP - voice over IP originated. VoIP was supposed to be a telephone over the internet. Unfortunately, modern times did not allow the development of a "telephone over ihe Internet" because there are already chat clients (Skype, Viber, Instagram, Messenger, ICQ, etc.).
Amazon Fire Stick ? Unfortunately, I don't know. Sorry. I don't want to look for it on Google. Is this a service for watching internet videos ? Or a service that distributes television broadcasts over the internet ? Find out for yourself what type of stream they are using, what audio-video format (codec). Also, whether it is an encoded stream and what type of client-server connection they use (unless it is a UDP broadcast over the local network).

How to Install and Use Smart IPTV on FireStick / Android [2020]
I'm unsure whether something like Smart-IPTV is available for Enigma2... There also a list of providers
Best IPTV Service Providers for FireStick /Android TV/PC [2020]
So, if I take out a subsription, can I use my STB for watching channels? I'm guessing that my list of channels could be installed as a bouquet.... but don't really know.

Box 1:Vu+ Zero 4KBox 2:Vu+ Solo SE V2Box 3:Formuer F4-TURBOAndroid systems are very popular (Although incredibly slow! And only use in the TV industry of Android system has KODI). For Android, various players are developing from all kinds of service providers. In the case of Enigma it is different. Also, Enigma must support a video standard that your provider uses. Every IPTV provider may to be a different.
