HDD ‘Write Error’ - how to resolve?

    Hi,

using an Edision os3 with external and internal hard drive and on OATV 6.2.
Recently on any recording it fails and I get an error message: ‘write error, disk full?’

My HDD has over 100gb space and it doesn’t matter which drive I try and record on I get the same error.

All previously recorded programmes and films are playing fine on both HDDs. I have reflashed several times but same issue.

Can anyone suggest how to resolve?

    Hello.

Is the disk formatted on the linux file system ext2 / ext3 / ext4 ? It must be if you want to record records locally (external USB disk or internal disk).

How do you know you have 100GB of free space ? How did you verify it ? Command under set-top-box in commandline Shell (eg. command "df -h") ? It is quite possible that Enigma is trying to write to the internal flash memory and there is not enough free space. Obviously, the Enigma does not always find your HDD (for example, due to its drowning). Hard to say.

It would help to enable DebugLOG in the OpenATV MENU + system reboot. Then send to diskussion here the last LOG-file from the set-top-box ("/home/root/logs/Enigma2-debug-log") when the error occurred.

    Hi S3N0,

Both internally and external HDD are formatted as EXT 4.

I verified free space by navigating to: information>Devices

It is not attempting to write to Flash as record path is set to /media//HDD/Movie and I can see the failed recorded programs in EMC. I will try and enable debug log and post on her this evening. Thanks.

I ran the ‘Filesystem Check’ from the OATV menu and it did not identify any issues.

I will try those other repair options this evening.

    Thanks.

Sorry, didn't notice the english section:

Looks like as if 3 devices are connected, attached to /media/hdd, to /media/usb and to /media/sdc1

So far so good, you just have to ensure what device is really mounted at /meida/hdd (standard record path)... is it just a small USB pendrive, recordings will fail. Therefore you could setup all your drives in the mountmanager, to ensure which device is mounted where. (see Fixed mount vs. fast mount)

BUT it looks as if the power supply voltage of the external HDD drops and the drive is detected again by the system and then again and again and gets a new device name. Is this drive only powered by the USB port?

I noticed that you have picons on your external drive too. Are they functional ? Do some picorns disappear occasionally ? If an external HDD were to be turned off, picnics would also be lost in the channel menu.

I see there problems with writing to a disk and repeatedly connecting the HDD. I do not know why. As suggested by colleague before, this might be related, for example, to the insufficient power supply of the HDD from the USB connector on your set top box. However, suppose you use an external power supply for your HDD.

What types of discs (USB HDD / USB memory stick) do you connect to your set top box ? Are there drives that are more or just one ? If there are more disks, do you always use the same mount-point in the set top box for all disks ? I also do not know why they are so many. I do not know whether it's good to have so many drives without their precise fitting (manual configuration).

Um, I do not know. It seems to me that the disk is simply disconnecting from the system (why not). At least according to system "Plugins/SystemPlugins/Hotplug/plugin.py".

    Thanks All,

To be clear, there are 3 disc drives attached: an internal hard drive, and external hard drive and a usb pen drive.

They are all mounted on consistent mountpoints: Internal HDD @ /HDD, USB HDD @ /usb and USB pen drive at /sdc1.

They are all formatted to ext4.

Maybe the power supply is starting to fail. I will replace tonight and see if this helps.
