    Thanks Maddie!

But how do I download it from there? That looks like the contents of the file not the file?

I would not change there any paths myself.
What is wrong with this information, that works in every part of the image?

Instead of changing the information just for your setting again and again, i would use the preffered ones.

Thanks Arn - will try that this evening.

@Papi - I have an internal HDD mounted at HDD, an external HDD mounted at USB and a USB Pen drive mounted at SDC1.

I don’t want my picons on my flash drive or hard drive so they are on my USB Pen drive, but SDC1 is not read by the MetrixHDXpicon paths.

Spacerat did suggest I could use s symlink - which would work fine. He also suggested permanently changing fstab to fix my external HDD to EXTHDD - however this was a bit too much for my limited skills, even with his excellent instructions!

Create a directory where you want to have picons (for example /usr/share/enigma2/picon/*.png). Then use sym-link for the standard picon directory. I think it could work that way.

After updating the image, your python code will be overwritten by the new MetrixHDXPicon (when updated to a newer version), and you must recompile MetrixHDXPicon.py to .pyo again. Additionally, there is a risk of incompatibility if additional dependencies for other components in OpenATV are added to the newer MetrixHDXPicon code. If your own code does not include these possible new dependencies. Then you must download the original code again (from the GitHub server), edit it and upload it to your box. Sometimes a problem arises when compiling code when automatic compilation does not work. In my opinion, it is just a waste of chaos.

That sounds, as if the usb-key is dynacally mounted to /media/sdc1 by the system at startup, and not fixed to maybe /media/usb2 via UUID in the /etc/fstab (BLUE-Mounts-Laufwerksverwaltung (in german)). After doing so, the usb-key allways is mounted there. Then use a simple symlink in /usr/share/enigma2 named picon, pointing to /media/usb2/picon.
That way is robust against updates and also newflash with restoring your settings.
Your plan with edited piconpath will work for five minutes. And after newflash, you may not restore your edited file directly, because all other changes in the file on the server respectively in the image may cause a boot fail - so nice try, but forget it. I did the same with a keymap.usr. After half a year i gave up searching the part, changing it again and again.

    Thanks Pappi & S3,

I’ll dig out Spacerat’s instructions for editing the fstab and permanently mount USB Pen drive to a search path that MetrixHDXpicon.py searches in so.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Just to update- I went with the symlink solution and it work perfectly. Does anyone know if it will be saved if I save my settings? I presume it will as it is on my HDD?
