Maybe the wrong password and username ?
Did you also try to restart after you've put it through MENU OpenATV?
No files showing ?

/media/autofs/test/....shared-files....
...or:
/media/hdd/....shared-files....

You can also check the configuration in files::

/etc/enigma2/automounts.xml (Enigma2 configuration file)
...and:
/etc/auto.network (system configuration file)

I use a password-free connection (user = "guest" and blank password = ""). Of course, the shared directory in Windows-7 has the privilege "guests". Everything works.

Maybe it would help the linux shell to find the cause of the problem (displays error messages or error codes). You may find the cause. Googled link:

Samba service is enabled on your box ? For MS-sharing folders from the linux box in your network, do you need the Samba service enabled.
MENU OpenATV: Settings > System > Network > CIFS/Samba --- it's enabled ? check it please :-)

What about the linux-shell ? No error messages from linux-shell ? What's wrong there ? Use the PUTTY client to connect into your box (Telnet/SSH) and try to mount the external network point as manually.

BTW, Samba(SMB) and CIFS is not the same: The Difference Between CIFS and SMB (and Samba vs. NSF)

Download PUTTY client.
Connect with PUTTY to your set top box - choose Telnet connection and enter the IP address of your box.
The user name is root and password is blank (ENTER) if you have not changed it yet.
Once connected, you will see a console, a terminal, in other words: Linux-Shell :-).

Or connect via an FTP client to your box and check the contents of the above mentioned configuration files just for sure.
What is their content ?

For the username:guest and password:blank (no password), do you need enable the "nonpassword sharing" option for guests on your Windows system.

What folder do you mean ? It must work. Or try to reboot your Linux box. Or try the linux-shell ("command-line") as I mentioned - the system will show an error message when you mount an external network drive (Windows folder).
