Fan control plugin for Tiviar Alpfa Plus

Hi, first of all, I am very pleased that Tiviar Alpfa Plus now has Enigma2 image. I have been waiting for this long and Tiviar Alpfa+ works perfectly with the OpenATV 6.1 image. After I've tested this Enigma2 image for a few weeks, I wonder about the fan speed and the hot temperature in this receiver. Where can I find "Fan Control 2 plugin" and can this plugin work with Tiviar Alpfa Plus and this OpenATV image? Most users of Tiviar Alpfa + are aware of this heating problem and want higher speed of the inside fan.

    Hello.

I found some FanControl2 plugin. But surely you too will know. I only found one that can only be turned on or off by the built-in FAN.

It looks like the FanContro2 plugin is about universal (it's not dependent on the type of processor used in the satellite box). Your satellite box contains the MIPS chipset (not SH4), so be careful when looking for a plugin. The plug-in should be for MIPS processors, or look for a universal plug-in for all processors. Sometimes compatibility with the image itself (OpenPLi, OpenATV, OpenHDF, etc.) is also a problem.

OpenATV itself does not have FanControl2 plugin on feed servers. So you have to download it from another source and pray for there to be compatibility. It will probably work from another source (for another Enigma 2) as Enigma2 systems are very similar and have the same foundation.

Software speed-dependent temperature control is a big problem. Each box has different temperature sensors, which are differently overdimensioned (rising coefficient), meaning they show totally different values, which is their analogy. They also get used to being physically located in a completely different place. Different FANs - with different airflow - are used in each box. In some cases, if the plugin would regulate FAN speed based on CPU temperature, it would be unnecessary, for example, the CPU may have a low temperature while the HDD may be high - such regulation would then be ineffective. Each box has another internal cooling solution in my opinion. Plugin should therefore be branded - that is, that a code must be programmed separately for each box type. This, unfortunately, is very difficult.

In my opinion, the best solution is its own automatic speed control (depending on the temperature inside the box). If you do not break the warranty, open the box and make your own regulation. Alternatively, get help from an experienced electrician. Use the simple electrical diagram or the ready-made purchasing module with PWM FAN control (with a temperature sensor).

Example for universal module with PWM (pulse) FAN power control (including temperature sensor):
Amazon.com: DC 12V PWM PC CPU Fan Temperature Control Speed Controller CPU Alarm Module: Computers & Accessories

    - and also in the video :

Similar electronic modules can be made from purchased electronic components or can be purchased by a ready-made module.

What exactly is the problem with the FAN ? The FAN is very noisy ? Does not it turn off in Standby mode ? Or does the FAN have a low regulated speed ?

    ;-)

When it was Fortis original software, there was a higher speed of the fan from the beginning but after Fortis updating they probably lowered the speed because of noise. The fan is working in stand by and working with low regulated speed all the time.

Do you want adjustable fan speed control ?
    Or exactly what ?
I still do not know how I can help you or where exactly the problem is.
What exactly does not work with OpenATV 6.1 ?

If I understand correctly, do you need to achieve higher fan speeds ?
Because you mentioned that in the case of Fortis stock firmware, the fan speed was always slightly higher.

I want if possibly adjustable fan speed control and I could not find any function for that in OpenATV 6.1 meny. I try to find Fan Control 2 or something simular in OpenATV under plugin download but I could not find it. The reason for my problem is that Tiviar Alpfa Plus gets very warm but with higher fan speed as it was from early beginning, Tiviar was cooler. So the best is if the fan speed was higher when I use it and in standby mode lower because of noise and also so I can notice the temperaturers inside.

    Hi there.

    That's weird.

The problem of high temperature on an OpenATV image can be really anywhere. For example, if you use an internal HDD (Tiviar Alpha Plus can contain it) - when the HDD standby mode does not work for an unknown reason - this mean of course a higher temperature inside the box. The cause can also be an active Timeshift feature.

First, you need to verify if this is really an OpenATV image error, as in the original image, the box temperature was lower. I'm not a direct developer of OpenATV, so I do not know exactly where the fan software driver is, or exactly how fan speed control works. If I knew, I would try to change it.

ExtraFanControl - IPK of the exemplary installation package you will find here:
GitHub - Dima73/enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-extrafancontrol: Extra fan control - use HDD/SSD/CPU temp
Well, I think this plugin can only turn the FAN off and on according to the set rules. It can not regulate the fan speed according to the temperature. According to the description of the plugin, it should also take into account the HDD temperature and not just the CPU temperature - it is quite possible that this is a problem in OpenATV - but I do not know for sure. Try this plugin and see if you'll be happy (Menu > Setup > System > Extra Fan Control).

    /////////////// EDIT :

You can also try another plug-in from OpenPLi 6.1 - FanControl2, which is primarily designed for Dreambox devices. There may be some minor OpenATV compatibility issues. I do not know how OpenATV will respond to this plugin. But I think it could work.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find the latest plug-in installation package (from OpenPLi image) on the Internet. I found some older versions (2012) only.

I could install OpenPLi 6.1 and then use the package manager (opkg command) to get the ipk-package and then paste it into this forum. But it would take a lot of time, so sorry. Maybe later.

Tanks for your info and ideas. I shall see if I maybe can find the plugin FanControl2 from OpenPli 6.1.

I have now tested extrafancontrol plugin and it did not work at all on Tiviar Alpfa+. So I need your help to get latest version of plugin fancontrol2 2.6 ipk file version?

I have enabled an try to configurate different settings in meny but no reaction on the fan with this Extrafancontrol plugin. The only thing who is happend is that fan stops running and when I take away the plugin and reboot it goes back normal low speed. Maybe this control can`t control 2 pole fan or something else. In Fancontrol2 plugin it`s possibly to decide different settings about type of fan so this plugin is maybe my only hope. I am not shure yet if this plugin will works with OpenATV and this Tiviar box. I try still to find that Fancontrol2 plugin and its not easy. The best would be if OpenATV had this option for different settings of fan inside the image something like Fancontrol2 but maybe to complicated to devolope.
