I have checked the python files of EMC to see what happens if EMC is enabled and disabled.
if you disable EMC, only a few changes are made in EMC. i don't think the problem comes directly from EMC.

another thing that you can try is making an enigma2 debug output via telnet.
this shows what happens in the system when you start up, and oprate your box.
this means that you can see where it goes wrong (or different) with recording/playback. if you make a debug output with EMC enabled and one with EMC disabled, you must see a difference.
i prefere the telnet client 'putty' for this, if i want to see it on my pc screen. ETCC and DCC only have a small telnet window, and you can only scroll back a little bit.
but if you want to test it, just to see what happens, here are the telnet codes:

    init 4

    enigma2

the box restarts, and you will see the debug output in the telnet window.

If you want to stop the debugging, press ctrl+c in telnet window.
then restart enigma2 normally with telnet code:

    init 3

but to make thing easier its better to create a debug textfile on you box. that way it's easier to compare the debug files on your pc.
and if you can find the difference, or the cause of the problem, you can attach these debug files to a post/reply in this forum (maybe in a different section).
    code:

    enigma2 > /tmp/e2log.txt 2>&1

then restart enigma2 (NOT REBOOT). you will NOT see the debug output in the telnet window.

If you want to stop the debugging, press ctrl+c in telnet window.
then restart enigma2 normally with telnet code:

    init 3

the name of the debugging file is: e2log.txt
    and the location is: /tmp
you can rename the debugging file in the telnet code, if you want to give them an individual name.

Thanks again for your help Lucifer.

    I've installed OpenATV 6.0 (2017-10-25) and re-tested
    The same problem exists.

    1. Disable EMC and restart receiver
    1. Open EPG and record a show that is on live now
    2. Open Movie list and try to playback the recording
This fail for approx 30 seconds. Once approx 30 seconds has elapsed, playback of the recording works.

Everything works fine if EMC is enabled.

So it seems to be there is a bug in that OpenATV cannot be used without EMC.

Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks

    ok, thanks for testing.
the last thing that i can think of, is the debug output like i suggested.
you will be able to tell (live, if you use debug output in telnet screen.)what the box is doing, or waiting for, during the 30 Sec. delay.

    Hi again Lucifer
I've tried what you said and capture logs. However, when I run enigma2 from the command line with EMC enabled, the problem also happens.
So I've only got one log - this is where EMC was disabled and playback of a recorded file failed.

This is where I started the recording
    Code:
    22:49:18.9723 RecordTimer.py:1310 record [Timer] Record RecordTimerEntry(name=8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown..., begin=Wed Jan 3 21:57:00 2018, serviceref=1:0:19:52D0:814:2:11A0000:0:0:0:, justplay=0, isAutoTimer=False)
This is where I tried and failed to playback the recording (6 seconds after starting the recording)
    Code:
    22:49:24.6738 dvb/tstools.cpp:98 setSource [eDVBTSTools] setSource loading streaminfo for /media/hdd/movie/20180103 2157 - Channel 4 HD - 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown___.ts
    At this point, playback failed!

    Hi divil_a_bit,

well, atleast you have a debug output from the problem situation.
i have looked into the debug log, but i can't tell you what goes wrong, it's too complicated for me.
i suggest to ask help from an image developer, who can understand (and explane) the processes that are shown in the debug log.
it might not be seen as a priority, because the problem does not occure with EMC enabled, but don't give up.

it looks like a side-effect of disabeling EMC, maybe this option was never considered and tested, because EMC is embedded in the image.

i will make some tests with my et10000 and et8000, to see if i can reproduce the problem, and if there is a way for a debugfile, whitout a crash if EMC is enabled.
do you use an internal, or an external hdd for your recordings ?

    Hi Lucifer
Thanks for looking at the logs - it's a pity you couldn't identify the problem.

I've have been able to reproduce the exact same problem on 2 different GB Quad+ receivers and also an Xtrend et10000 (all running OpenATV 6.1). None of these receivers experience this problem when running OpenVix.

Across the 3 receivers, I have 1 internal SSD and 2 internal HDDs.

Where is the best place to get a developer to look at the problem?

    Hi divil_a_bit,

the et8000 and et10000 have an external hdd, and that may cause an extra delay (usb buffer), so i will test it with an internal hdd.

the best place to ask help for this, is unreachable for us, because we can only see the public sections of the forum.
if you are a VIP member or moderator or a developer or ... then you have extra sections, where you can ask.
developers use these sections to have discussions with other developers without interference from members of the public section.
that way developers can do their job better.
i have been a betatester for an other image, for a couple of years, and i've learned the most interesting things in these private sections.

so, the best advise that i can give you, send a pm to one of the moderators or administrators. link: https://www.opena.tv/showgroups.php
put a link to this thread in the pm, and ask what the best section is, to ask for help.
dubble posting is against the forum rules, but this thread may be moved to an other section if necessary.

i've learned that providing as much information as you can about a sertain issue, is a great help for finding the solution.
and with the tests that you have done, you have that part covered.

OpenPLi and OpenVix don't support EMC, so the developers there must be able to tell what to do, or how the movie player works in their image.
but i have learned that people that ask questions about other images, and plugins that are not supported, get a negative reply (you don't get any help).
this is understandable because every image team want to make their own image good/stable, and have nothing to do with other images.

i will make some tests myself, and let you know if find new information about this issue, or the solution.
