    @Papi2000:
    Nope. My Adata 128GB USB3.0 memory stick is super-fast :-). The same thing when connecting to the USB2.0 interface (about 30-40 MB/s).

    Or do you mean an inappropriate file system format from the "mkfs" of the Linux formatting tool ?

    @Veronik96:
    DebugLOG is bad and cut. According to the LOG file, your box started only 3 seconds :-). There is the time trace ! Exactly from the time track, I wanted to find out where the problem is !

    If you are worried about privacy, send LOG at least a private message or upload it and send a password to a private message :-). But there are usually no private data that would crash privacy, such as passwords.

    There are different huge sticks out in the wild. Which ones do most users buy? And even if they buy the most expensive - USB3 is very new to the linux kernel, and especially for E2 and the chipsets. So performance problems are normal.

    What about compatibility mode ? Each USB3 must still work correctly in USB2 mode. This also applies if you connect the USB3 device into USB2 interface (or USB3 without proper drivers). I sometimes have a problem on a desktop PC with USB3. They are new, unintentional, strange, but powerful, and unfortunately need software drivers. It is true. However, in my view, this will not cause any problems. Performance can also be measured. For example, copying to (writing) and copying from (reading) a set top box through an FTP connection (a large number of smaller files or even one large file). Of course, the FTP server also has some feedback or slowdown, but not as extreme as it was ten years ago :).

    Sorry about that, s3n0. That was not due to privacy concerns at all. I said they were just excerpts of log files, and I know it's just the first couple of seconds after rebooting the GUI, as I figured it was pointless and irrelevant to make the post even longer by sharing all of it since this "skipping issue" would in fact happen in the very first second: 50 flashes briefly and then it goes straight to 99.

    But I mean, I only started noticing this because of that freezing issue, I don't care at all about what the box does at boot-up as, after all the box works fine and the boot speed is top notch regardless. I was just wondering if it might be a sign of a flash drive issue, that's all. Anyway, like I said yesterday, it seems to me that the skipping has something to do with permanent timeshift. In fact, I played around with it some more yesterday and the box definitely boots up normally after disabling permanent timeshift or making sure timeshift is stopped before rebooting.

    Regardless, what I really cared about was getting rid of those rare freezing issues on a handful of channels, and I have to say Papi2000 is definitely on to something as I've never seen that with the 64GB stick. I'm not saying this larger stick isn't super fast either, but it's pretty clear it gets overwhelmed at times on some channels, perhaps as a result of bitrate spikes or something like that. Of course, you may have to do al lot of timeshifting to run into or even notice this problem, or who knows, maybe it's just this particular huge stick of mine that has speed issues and/or is just not 100 percent cut out for timeshift purposes in e2. So, I'm just gonna stick with the smaller version which has still plenty of storage to go around. Thanks guys for your help and insight.

    Change the buffer size limit for the Timeshift function, in the OpenATV configuration (via MENU). It looks like it's set up for up to 12 hours by default . It is possible that every time you boot, this cache file is scanned or even re-created (I have mentioned it once). Try setting this limit to 2 hours.

    Are you sure you have no errors on your Ext4 formatted USB sticks? Try to check the Ext4 file system for any errors. As you surely know, you can find the disc verification right in the OpenATV MENU.

    Yeah, the buffer size limit is already set to 2 hours, and yep, no errors on the USB sticks.

    Anyway, take a look at these two log excerpts. As I said, I shut down a power strip at night, so the logs start at 1 AM when I turn it back on in the morning before picking up the current time after boot-up is complete. I've attached the files as the post came out too long. Log #1 is from yesterday when the boot-up process gradually and properly built up to 99. It's the full excerpt, basically up to the point when boot-up ends, the time adjustment goes down, and I switch channels.

    Log #2 is from this morning when instead the boot-up process again skipped past 50 and straight to 99. Regardless, boot-up still takes the same amount of time.

    So, do you see anything at all that goes down differently that would explain that jump forward?

    @Papi2000 & @s3n0, did you guys happen to take a quick look at those logs? Anything out of the ordinary in there, and would you say it's odd for the box to boot up this way?

    Meanwhile, I've done away with the 128GB stick and I'm back on the 64GB drive with no timeshift freezing issues whatsoever. After all, it might have just been a faulty unit, as I was still able to return it, and even formatting it into FAT32 before shipping it out took quite a bit of time.

    You can not see anything strange in the LOG records ... maybe just Timeshift. It looks like a TImeshift problem. The question is to find out exactly what's going on behind the problem.

    If your box also includes a USB 2.0 connector and not just USB 3.0, try plugging the USB key into the USB 2.0 connector. You use a USB 3.0 USB key that is not perfect if you do not use the correct drivers. So theoretically if you had a USB 2.0 connector on your device, this would eliminate the USB 3.0 problem.
