Kernel sources on github

I would like to inform you about a project I have recently started - the port of the Hisilicon Poplar kernel sources to the Dinobot 4K SE. Initially the sources for the Poplar board were also available on github but only for 64 bit builds. I have now created a fork for the 32 bit build in this repository:

Interestingly the Poplar sources also contain most of the Hisilicon Multimedia drivers. Only the user space libs are missing.
The long term goal of my project is to create a similar OpenElec / LibreElec port for the HI3798cv2x which I have already started for the previous Hisi chips.

At the moment the kernel build from that sources is running fine on an Egreat A5 and a Ferguson U5PVR with a Linaro Nano Root FS on SD card (No X11 yet, but framebuffer already available).

If anyone is interested to take part in the development, please drop me a note.

I like the Idea, but you are trying to build another E2 image or make a better Android firmware than the one we are getting??

No, OpenElec or LibreElec are purely Linux based and contain mainly Kodi as Mediacenter. Besides the Kodi App for Android (and the special VidonXBMC) there is currently no such Linux port available for the Hi3798cv2x or the Hi3798mv2x.

great, i like the idea for native LibreElec port for u5pvr or u5mini both use mv200 chip

please report i think many uses happy then you get it working with real hw support of media drivers

By changing standard kernel (4.3) you will make it not compatible with the available build drivers.
The H9 and the dinobot oems use this kernel.

Actually in the BSP layer you have already a stand-a-lone kodi but without the native Hisilicon player.
I see your source use the standard local_sample_player. I think mayor part is to see how kodi works with this player as it's actually all available.

I think you do not have the Zgemma H9 I can probably arrange for this build the local player and if need some additional header files.

i have two questions,
1) can i use this development board Hisilicon Poplar for hi3798mv200 based with your 32bit kernel for writing simple application for boxes such as octagon sf8008 etc?
2) if there is no development board for hi3798mv200 can i create a qemu on pc or raspbery pi supporting the same arm cortex A53 processor?

My goal is to write simple application for the octagon sf8008 box and i tried on enigma2 i can only able to create a simple helloworld with a lot of coding in framebuffer.
i was trying to see to some other libraries like SDL, minigui , agar can be compiled for my targe board?

Poplar is CV200 and not MV200... you probably need to replace mali driver and some other things to make it compatible.
SDL we use already for Kodi like for retro games...
