Yes, all cool now, even *Power*Vu* works (AFN at my end but not 4.8E, at least the ones I have signal for (probably HiSil have to additionally correct the code for it to work?)...
There are some issues with streaming and playback, from what I can see (TS,VOB etc), when compared to other mipsel and arm based STBs - but overall the machine's SW is progressing, things seem faster now and so on!

What do you mean? You have bad reception on some channels on 4.8E, what should Hisilicon correct?
Streaming VOB you mean from NAS server and do you mean DVD by VOB or Vorbis audio?
Streaming TS works by me lot better then on MIPS. What issues do you have and how can it been reproduced? Do you have any log?!Deutsch ist nicht meine mutter sprache, so sprachfehler kann auftreten!

To clarify: I tested the same OSCam version, with the same config in 2 Zgemma boxes and the result for H9.2x was as I described.
I haven't got the signal for all PV on 4.8 but the ones I do have (for instance, Animal Planet EU, Discovery Central EU, Science EU) do not work with H9.2x but they do work with H7S.
What should they correct? I am no coder but I can test pretty carefully. I can only tell you what I found in my tests, when I compared the 2 boxes....
I mean playback of DVDs from my NAS and from an external HDD (via USB port). We are talking about video and video_ts folders and in them VOB files.
Internal player via FILE LIST button (i.e. Media Player and built-in DVD Player) get me nothing at all, except a DVD menu - but nothing substantial, sadly...
(It works in H7S, though! Even in Kodi, I found a way to play them without buying the licence...)
E2iPlayer was temperamental, i.e. mixed results:
exteplayer3 can play them but not as a folder, i.e. not as a whole DVD. It can only play individual VOB files. Sadly, no video, only audio.
Gstreamer player does play it fully, i.e. both video and audio but not always. It's... weird, as it sometimes opens it and sometimes you must change the player several times, 'till it starts playing...
So, my conclusion - from all the tests I have done - they (DVD files) do not work in H9.2x with internal player, period. But they do with H7S.
Now, my question is: which player in H9.2x is used in OE-A by default? HiSIlicone or E2? I refer to this: hd60, v8plus, h10, h9combo change default player to native * oe-alliance/oe-alliance-core@065465e * GitHub
This needs clarification, so we know whom to send the reports: HiSilicon, driver developers of these boxes or OE-A and individual teams?
Streaming from the net works fine with E2iPlayer, FNC plugins in PurE2 etc. Mind, there is a little bug somewhere in PurE2 when one exits FNC plugins, one must make a quick Restart E2 top get the image on Sat TV channels but it otherwise works great!
============================in addition=========================
One more thing I found so far: flv file I tested did not work with E2iPlayer, any player I chose. Sometimes mp4 file might not work with one or 2 combinations of the 2 E2iPlayer players, with or without buffering (in all, 4 combinations, obviously) but usually it works with at least one of them. However, that flv - nope...
Film recorded from a Satellite channel in ts format did not want to work with exteplayer3 without buffering but it did with gstrplayer w/o buffering. Another concert (mpeg), the same. Go figure... In short, temperamental.
On the other hand, if I played those files via FILE LIST, i.e. internal E2 player - they all worked...
Why? Sorry, I wish I had answers but I am from Humanities and this is but a hobby for me...
On the other hand, I do have questions... Hopefully those Qs might help solve these problems and improve these potentially great and cheap boxes...
(Sorry, no more time, must rush to the school anbd get my son... But I will be happy to do more tests, if required!)Geändert von gorski (26.11.2018 um 16:15 Uhr)

PowerVU this isn't improved yet. Probably that's why it doesn't work yet like it should been. It's strange if some channels work and other doesn't.
Just one question why do you use exteplayer and Gstreamer? As you maybe know exteplayer is similar to FFMpeg.
The internal player is based on FFMpeg as well but has support of hardware codec. So it's actually 1000x better and gstreamer for Hisilicon will not been developed. It shouldn't even been standard in my opinion in the image.
With latest image I have no issues with DVD even chapter change works (what doesn't work by me on H7), TS, MP4, FLV and so on all plays well.
So big advice stop using the "buggy" players for Hisilicon as they are improved for Broadcom chipset. The internal player is far more advanced!!!Geändert von WTE (26.11.2018 um 16:36 Uhr)

Ha, I am not the only fossil around, still having DVDs and playing them... Good to know.
But there are also some differences...
You and I haven't got the same box, to start with. Is yours with 4/8GB flash? Mine are H9x (S & T) and H9.2x (S & H), all with 256MB flash and some other differences. It would seem the newer versions will have (they already do have?) different drivers... So, what is this "plus version" that you have - the differences?
Then, my DVDs are concerts, since amongst other things I am a musician, ergo I don't go by chapters but by songs and that I have no problems with in Zgemma H7 (but I do in H9.2x, which is simply not playing it, as I described). Don't misunderstand me, I believe you re. the chapters, it's just that I don't have those to mess with, only songs and those work.
Next, you did not address the issues raised by me - like the link to OpenATV: hd60, v8plus, h10, h9combo change default player to native * oe-alliance/oe-alliance-core@065465e * GitHub
So, which player is used in various boxes, whereby it was internal E2 player and not HiSIlicon player, plus how to fix it...
Here, there are more serious questions by SSS and he's not exactly an IT lay person like me: [request] Use more features of the Hisilicon Hi3798M V200 SoC * Issue #7 * zgemma-star/meta-zgemma * GitHub

Unfortunately playback via /dev/dvb/adapter0/audio0 and /dev/dvb/adapter0/video0 interfaces works very, very bad on H9.
Many files does not work at all. For example it is not possible to play H.265 via /dev/dvb/adapter0/video0
Even if some codec works like H264 it works very bad. There is many macroblocks and so on. Play/Pause works very badly.
There is no such problem when using servicehisilicon but this cause many disadvantage.
Normally in the Enigma2 media player have two parts:
First part - OpenSource part which is responsible to receive data, demultiplexing them, format AUDIO/VIDEO frame adding PES header and codec specific data and injecting this frame to /dev/dvb/adapter0/video0 and /dev/dvb/adapter0/audio0.
Second part - closed source, driver part, provide interface for /dev/dvb/adapter0/video0 and /dev/dvb/adapter0/audio0
But /dev/dvb/adapter0/video0 and /dev/dvb/adapter0/audio0 in the H9 are bad.
So, they create separate media player called servicehisilicon, this player do NOT use /dev/dvb/adapter0/video0 and /dev/dvb/adapter0/audio0 interfaces.
So, there is no OpenSource part which will allow to add new format, protocol and so on.
All is closed. So, only set-top-box driver provider can made fix or add support for example for some streaming protocols.
In such way this set-top-box is unusable for IPTV unless /dev/dvb/adapter0/audio0
and /dev/dvb/adapter0/video0 will be fixed.
This is very bad news because hardware is very good, but drivers unfortunately are not.
Which player is used in these boxes, when it comes to OE-A images? HiSilicon or E2? I mean, apparently, other HiSilicon boxes do not have some of those issues, so why is it that some do and some don't?
How exactly does that work? Who deserves credit for what and then who is responsible for the bits that do not work? So we could engage them - to improve the drives etc.
I might have some crashlogs to send but to whom?
Will it be endless pointing towards "the other" or...?Geändert von gorski (26.11.2018 um 19:43 Uhr)

Now, let me address specific questions you had:
It is! Possibly not all that is needed is in there or with a small bug somewhere... H7 is fine with it!
I take it you do not know what E2iPlayer is or what it does and how? Also, E2 Service App came out of that impetus... You see, it is based on ffmpeg and it has those 2 players included, when all is installed as it should be. They can be chosen either with or without buffering, ergo 4 possible combinations. You should install it and investigate. It's good!
It comes out of DuckTales SH4 project, it went into Alien1/2 so called All Russian Project, they even made ffmpeg based E2 for it etc. Let's just say there is a lot you should inform yourself about there - all good projects that added a lot to our hobby!
Or maybe you just did not understand what I said and you know all this already? Maybe it's the language thing, I don't know... Misunderstanding each other on that basis is possible, too...
I have advocated that kind of E2 since I saw All Russian project, long ago.. But it's a big job and apparently many plugins would then need restructuring etc. etc.
Well, nice to know, hope I see it in my boxes soon...
Allegedly. But still not working in H9x and H9.2x boxes I have, sadly... I.e. I stand by my tests, I know what I saw and I compared carefully.
I will believe it when I see it, in other words...Geändert von gorski (26.11.2018 um 17:55 Uhr)

Zgemma uses FFMpeg which is far better choice. Exteplayer is based on FFMpeg but with so far I understand an extra layer which makes it compatible with Gstreamer for hardware codec support. But Hiplayer is FFMpeg with direct hardware decode.....
Kodi is as well based on FFMpeg and this videoplayer works fine. Till Exteplayer depend on Gstreamer for hardware decode it's big advice to use only FFMpeg and no players which is in some way related with Gstreamer.!Deutsch ist nicht meine mutter sprache, so sprachfehler kann auftreten!

Work was in process Kodi uses now Hiplayer and it's first box with Hardware codec support !!! (SF8008 says they have it hw codec support but CPU load is over 100% so I must conclude it's software or it has major bug)
add hiplayer for h9, h9combo, i55plus, hd60 and set default player to… * oe-alliance/oe-alliance-core@5e4e128 * GitHub!Deutsch ist nicht meine mutter sprache, so sprachfehler kann auftreten!

Afaik and use, there are still some dependencies/plugins to install for enjoying smoothless DVD/Bluray Playback.(talking about hd51/OpenATV all Versions) without Hardware Decoding ability)
Please repeat your Tests playing DVD`s (VOB or iso) after installing from Feed as there are
DVDburn plugin (there is at least one of these dependencies installed with), which is basically developed to create iso-files from external DVD-Burner Device
python-mutagen for better handling of CD Structure
Bmediacenter needed for Bluray Playback
Blurayplayer-plugin for Browsing the Sources and Playback
